(Reader's POV)

I ran outside. It was the last day of school! No more homework, annoying teachers, nor Green Lettuce Soup. Blah. Sometimes I could act childish. Last week I just turned 17. I didn't do a party but I still had fun. I met up with my friends and went to school. The school day was long. When I was finally at my last class, I couldn't help but feel happy. When the bell rang, I quickly got out of my chair, packed, and ran out of the room. A smile started to spread. I even started to chase a (F/C) butterfly, until I got home.

I opened the door and gasped. There was glass everywhere. There was powder too. It was alcohol and drugs. I ran upstairs to where my two siblings were hiding. I saw them huddled in the corner of the room. One was a boy and the other one was a girl.

"Mommy and daddy is scaring us" (B/S/N) said, holding my hand. (G/S/N) nodded.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you guys" I said, smiling. They both hugged me. I hadn't seen my parents for the rest of the day. I told my siblings to stay in their room and I would bring them food. I kept my promise. I made some sandwiches and gave them (F/D). After that, I started to clean the mess that my parents had made. I started to feel like I was being watched.

Later that night, my parents came home, drunk. At least (B/S/N) and (G/S/N) had fallen asleep before they came home. I started to yell at my parents for what they have done.

"WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU? YOU WERE FINE YESTERDAY" I yelled.

"SHUT UP MOTHER F*CKER" My father yelled. Then they started to beat me. Everyday they would be gone so I became the head of the house. I cleaned and cooked. My siblings would try to help me but I would push them away since they were young. Sometimes I would get some alone time. I was happy that my parents didn't beat my siblings. They would beat me though. I stood strong though. I didn't cry or scream. If I wanted to be a example to my siblings, I had to be strong. My parents would cuss at me and say things. These things haunted my mind sometimes. I was always close to tears but I hid them. From that day that my parents became someone else, I made a promise to god that I would protect my siblings until the end. I won't let go. They need me. I need them. Nothing could change that. I would put my life on the edge if it means protecting them. I am brave, strong, and kind. Nothing can change that either.
