'Save it'
That's all I thought as I ran to the wolf pup cornered by two bears when I saw no adult wolf coming to save it.

Confused? Yeah. I understand. Maybe I should start from a day before this all started. The last day of my normal life... not that I'm really complaining.

So lets get the basics down. My name is William Amiry. I'm seventeen years old and about to go into my senior year of high school. It's my last summer before I become an adult.

My best friend and I decided to go camping with her mom this year for the fourth of July. We're both native Southern California kids, but her mom said that camping in Oregon would be much more beautiful with all the forests. We didn't complain, it'd be a much needed change from the constant desert we got back home.

"WIL! COME LOOK AT THIS!" London, my best friend called for me from a little bit into the woods.

"Freaking, I'M BUSY GETTING YOUR SHIT OUTTA THE CAR! GIMME A SEC WILL YA?!" I yelled back and chuckled to myself as the nineteen year old groaned loud enough for me to hear. "Ungrateful ass." I laughed to myself.

"You can say that again." Her mom laughed as she walked up behind me to help with the last of our supplies. I laughed at her comment. London's mom, Julica, was amazing. She was super chill and was probably a better mom then my own. But that's kinda because she can't use any of the normal mom excuses on me. The ones like "I can see you naked. I gave birth to you!" That stuff.

"Are you sure we have everything we need?" I asked. I was getting anxious that we'd be in the woods and not have something important that we needed. Julica smiled softly and placed her hand gently on my shoulder.

"Yes Willy, and if we don't we have plenty of gas to go back to California to get it if we need to." She comforted me successfully causing me to sigh a breath of relief and nod.

"Thanks. That's good to hear." I said softly and more to myself as we closed the car door and she locked it. We walked over to where London was and set our stuff down. "What did you want me to see?" I asked as I joined London by a river.

"Look! Fishes!" She squealed in an uncharacteristic high pitched voice which made me laugh.

"You're gonna scare them away don't squeal like that." I said, still chuckling. She frowned and rolled her eyes in response. "So this is why you couldn't get off your ass and help me?" I asked and nudged her playfully.

"Pfft. Suck it up, you're a man, you can handle it!" She sneered teasingly and stuck her tongue out at me.

"Wow. Sexist much? Do you see these arms? Do they look like they can lift heavy objects? Hm?" I questioned her which made her laugh loudly at the sight of my arms. I wasn't scrawny, but I was naturally slim. We always joked about how small I was. I was 5'9" and slim making me an easy target for anyone wanting a fight. Which many did at my school. I was never disliked much, but my classmates enjoyed using me as a punching bag. Yay me.

I'm a geek and pretty timid when it comes to someone being angry with me or fighting me. I submit easily and get my ass kicked.

"Earth to Wil~" London cooed as she waved her hand in front of my face to pull me out of my thoughts. I shook my head to regain composure before smiling at her.

"Wassup? Wasn't listening." I told her which earned me an eye roll.

"It's time to put the tents up." She grumbled standing up and brushing the dirt off her butt. She reached her hand out to me to help me up and I took it. I wiped my own butt off as I turned to find Julica already laying the tents out.

"I get my own, right? The small one?" I asked as I saw the two tents on the ground. One obviously bigger then the other.

"Yup!" Julica nodded as she stood up to grab the poles.

"London. Help your mom and I'll do my own tent." I instructed. London saluted to me like the smart ass she is and I rolled my eyes as a chuckle fell from my dark pink faded lips.

I walked to the flat tent Julica had set out for me and easily set it up. When it was up I threw my sleeping bag and large dark blue fluffy blanket into it. I then grabbed my duffle bag of clothes and backpack of pretty much junk.

I crawled in with my pillow tucked under my arm and zipped it up behind me. I decided to organize a bit. I started with separating a part for my bags and another for where I'd be sleeping. I set up my make shift bed before stepping out fifteen minutes later and smiled at the neatness.

"Yo! Want to have smores?" London asked as she walked over to me and wrapped and arm around me. She held a smore teasingly in front of my nose as I scrunched up my nose.

"Gross. You know I hate smores." I grunted, displeased by her meanness. She just returned my scowl with a small giggle as she bit into her oozing mess of a smore. I rolled my eyes as is stepped over to the small and safe fire we had going. I sat in a chair the girls had set up while I was in my tent and smiled at the fire.

It was getting dark. The sun was half way gone when I looked out to the mountains at the sunset. I checked my phone for the time and nodded to myself.

The girls and I sat around the fire laughing, teasing, and telling stories. It was nice. I wish I had relished that feeling a little longer instead of rushing to bed at ten pm. But i was excited for tomorrow. We were going to go for a nice long hike to the top of some nearby mountains to watch the fourth of July fireworks in the city.

Little did I know that tomorrow would be the end of my life as I know it.
