I woke up the next morning to the sun shining through my thin tent. I cringed and groaned at the sight. I turned over into my side for a few more miles of sleep. I sighed in frustration when I couldn't fall back asleep. I reluctantly sat up and scratched my chest through my shirt.
"You up lazy ass?" I heard London snicker outside my tent as she shook it.
"Yeah, yeah. Shut up. And stop that. You'll break my tent" I groaned and began going through my bag and grabbing clothes. I picked out a thin long sleeve black V neck then a pair of white washed ripped skinny jeans. I chose my red high top converse and put it all on. And lastly, before I got out of the tent, I threw on my black fallout boy hoodie. I stepped out of the tent and was greeted by a smirking London. "What's that look for?" I asked cautiously.
"You got up late so you have to wait five minutes before joining us on the hike." She said proudly and I rolled my eyes.
"Wow. Fine. When do we start?" I asked checking my phone for the time.
"Now. Mom and I ate. Also, no phones." She informed me and I groaned.
"Why??" I asked in annoyance which earned me a shrug.
"Dunno. Mom said so." She replied before turning away to find her mom so she could start the hike. I sighed and hid my phone deep in my bags so no one stole it before I got up and got ready. I grabbed a granola bar and a banana from the cooler for a small breakfast. The girls waved to me as they started the hike and I began waiting my five minutes by grabbing a water bottle and watching the river. After some time I felt like it was long enough and didn't feel like digging into my bag to find my phone and check so I just started.
I began following the path that London and Julica went down. Only a few minutes in and I already had a headache. I found myself with a fork in the path. The girls didn't wait for me so I had no idea which way to go. I looked up and saw one path led toward the mountain we were going to, so I chose that path.
My gaze shifted up to the sky as I watched the light gray clouds float slowly through the pale blue sky. I smiled softly, knowing the was a chance of rain today or tomorrow by the looks of it.
By the time my eyes finally shifted back to the ground I had lost the path. I furrowed my brows and turned around quickly, looking in every direction for the path I was on. Though to my dismay, it was no where in sight. And with all of the spinning, I had lost which way I had came from. I groaned and looked up to find the mountain only to be greeted by tall trees blocking my view.
"God damnit. Only I would get lost in the woods because I was daydreaming. Way to go me." I grumbled to myself as I kicked pebbles. I began walking aimlessly in a straight line, hoping to find something that could point me in the right direction. "YOU GUYS BETTER COME FIND ME! ASSHOLES!!" I screamed in frustration after, I'm assuming, an hour of walking.
I was lost in my thoughts when I heard a faint whimper. I shrugged it off, assuming I had imagined it since it was so small and I didn't hear it again when I paused to listen. But a minute later, I heard it again. It was still very quiet, so I had to guess it's direction.
As I walked, I heard the whimpers grow louder. They sounded like a dog, though I was smarter then that and deducted that it was a wolf. But it sounded young, probably a pup.
Finally it came into view and I could spot the wolf pup. I paused and smiled at it. It was adorable. I couldn't make it out too well, so I took a few steps closer. It wasn't till then that I saw it's tail tucked between it's legs and it's ears folded back.
'Why is it so scared?' i wondered to myself. I looked around for it's parent when my eyes landed on two large bears. I froze. The bears were inching closer to the pup as I stood there in fear. The bears looked hungry, probably wanting breakfast. My breath hitched when the pup let out a loud wine, snapping me back to reality. I searched quickly for an adult. Hoping it would save the pup. But I didn't find one.
The bears were getting close and before I knew it, my feet were moving on their own. 'Save it' was the only thought in my mind as I rushed to the pup. I scooped the pup up, gaining a surprised help from it and thankfully catching the bears off guard enough to get a head start.
The pup tried to get out of my arms slightly, but I didn't budge. "It's okay pup. I'm here to help you. I promise. Just sit tight and I'll get you to safety." I said as I dodge in between trees trying to lose the bear. And to my surprise, it seemed like the pup understood. He whimpered in response to my words and settled in my arms. "Thanks." I whispered.
