Chapter 5

AYAKO

Tobi once again skipped ahead of Deidera and I, not being able to wait much longer for food. I walked a few paces behind, still not being entirely sure of both the blonde and Swirlypop man. After all, Tobi did deceive me, and Deidera's first introduction hadn't been all too pleasant.

"We're here! Were here!" Tobi didn't bother to wait for us before he disappeared into the black hole that was carved into the side of a mountain. A boulder stood by the entrance, supposedly used as a secret door, and it was now slid out to reveal the dark passage leading into the rocky foundation.

I stopped just before Deidera disappeared. "We're going in there?"

"What? Scared of the dark, Princess?" Goldielocks smirked before entering through the tunnel and vanishing just as Tobi had done.

Technically I could have just escaped there and then. Both kidnappers were out of sight, leaving me free to up and dash for it. But a prickling pull in the pit of my stomach kept me from fleeing, and instead I found myself following suit into. "What the- shit!" I jumped a foot into the air as the boulder behind me slammed over the mouth of the entrance, leaving me submerged in total darkness with a faint ringing in my ears.

An arm landed itself around my shoulders, and I jumped yet again in surprise. I was definitely not expecting that either, and the stranger let out a self assuring chuckle. Probably mocking my skittish state. "Woman, you look about ready to shit some chickens!" He cackled and lead me through the darkened corridor.

"Excuse me? Who are you?" No matter how much I tried wiggling away, his arm remained fixated about my shoulders.

"You don't know who I am?! Oi, Kakuzu! This bitch here hasn't heard of us!"

A raspy voice answered the stranger's verbal assault, coming from the direction we were both headed. "Well, what did you expect? Our activity has been rather seclusive lately." I could see a faint tinge of yellow up ahead, signalling there was a light on somewhere, in this dark, forbidding, dungeon-like hideout.

As we continued ahead the light grew more intense. I was still supported around the shoulders, a pressure that kept me from turning back. If it wasn't for that, then the dim atmosphere which all but digested us had me convinced I should be running right about now. Did I mention I was afraid of the dark? Well, that one sat high and mighty on the list of things I hated the most; along with, fearsome ninja, perverted monsters, and cats.

I could hear more voices seeping from the light, none of them sounded rather too pleased at the mention of my arrival.

"She's definitely not the image I was expecting, un."

"What do we want with this girl anyway? Lord Pein?"

"Her abilities will be of most use to us."

I had no idea what the other voices were going on about. As far as I was concerned, I had no ability. That is, if you didn't count the ability to suck at jutsu.

I heard a snicker from the person beside me and looked up to see another smirk. I shot him a questioning look, which he ignored. "Oh, boy. Are they gonna be in for a treat." Just before we stepped over the threshold. Light filtered in through my pupils, causing them to contract. It made me blink a few times before I looked up and met with the gaze of several different shinobi, each looking as murderous as the next. "Well, that's my job done. No more guided tours for the rest of the day. Not unless you pay me for it, that is." The slicked-back silverette gave a devious wink, and made me feel slightly less comfortable than I already was.
