I stood in the hot clammy weather in my bland district. I looked up at the sky to see nothing but smoke. Even with The Hunger Games coming up soon, they still felt the need to run the factories. I twidled my small thumbs and looked around me. All the other female tributes my age stood around me. No one looked excited, no one looked nervous though either. It was almost as if everyone was just blank. It felt like forever, as our mayor told his speech, and retold the story of why we were doing this. My legs getting weaker as time went on.
My mind began wander. How would my mom and dad take it if I was called. They would be devistated. I started to rock back and forth on my heels. Looking around. Finally names were to be called.
"Alright Ladys and gentelmen, I say we let the Ladys go first shall we?"
There was grumbling in the crowd. No one wanted this, and it didn't matter who went first. There was an awkward silence as the womens had shuffled through the large bowl. My name was in there roughly 7 or 8 times, and I knew there was a chance my name would get called. If it did then I didn't know what I would do. I had spent the night before today thinking about how I would suceed in doing this. I was very good with knives, and I knew that if something happened then I would be able to hide very well. But I also knew that there wasn't much of a chance that I would win the Hunger Games. I watched, the paper was unfolded and everything was in slow motion.
"Marissa Bridges." My breath sucked in as everyone turned to look at me around me. I was well known around here, it was my hair, it was red and wild. I blew out and shuffled up to the stage, standing in my required spot. My mind went numb, I couldn't hear, I couldn't do anything but stand there. My mind was screaming, it was crying, it was freaking out. What would my parents do? How would they survive when they got to old to work? A boy was called, and walked up. He didn't look familar to me, but I still felt sorry for him. I felt sorry for everyone. This wasn't fair. We shouldn't have to do this...
