Kiren POV
I woke up in a cold sweat from my nightmare. I was standing in a field and it was raining. Sasuke was in front of me outside a portal with his hand outstretched. I tried to run to him to get though the portal and go home but no matter how fast I ran, I never got any closer to the portal. So everything I knew and loved was gone forever and I was helpless to do anything.
Everything was unfamiliar. I didn't know where I was. Where's Kenshin? Where's Sasuke. Were we captured? I looked around, outside it was still dark, but I could see the sky almost brightening. Probably sunrise soon. I flung the thin cotton sheets off my body, I was still in my clothes from yesterday.
I think it's from yesterday. I'm not sure how long I've asleep, or unconscious.
Silently pulling myself off the futon, I peered around the room, well it wasn't a cell so I was hopefully somewhere in Kayagayama castle. My bag lay just next to my head, and all my stuff was still inside.
I sighed, I'd made it. Now it'll be easier to contact Sasuke on getting home. Wasn't so hard after all...
I lay back down.
Sleep.
Sleep.
Sleep.
Nope.
The more I tried, to fall back to sleep, the more I found myself tossing and turning and tossing and turning!
This is impossible!
Once again I peered around the room until I spotted a window. No longer wanting to escape, I didn't bother looking for a knife to pack and agilely I climbed onto the roof to get some fresh air. By this time, the sun was rising. Bathing me in a warm glow; painting my face with a feeling of pure and utter serenity. Smiling to myself, I thought: the sunrise reminded me of one of my favourite quotes:
Each day is born with a sunrise and ends in a sunset, the same way we open our eyes to see the light, and close them to hear the dark. You have no control over how your story begins or ends.
But by now, you should know that all things have an ending. Every spark returns to darkness. Every sound returns to silence. And every flower returns to sleep with the earth. The journey of the sun and moon is predictable. But yours, is your ultimate art."Well it was actually part of a monologue from a play by Suzy Kassem, that I learnt years ago in school. I wasn't really sure how I remembered it, but it just stuck...
Basking in the forgiving glow of the morning sun, I found myself reminiscing of my life. Was I really ever happy in the present? Falling into a light sleep, I didn't hear...
Sasuke POV
As I walked through castle, I found myself grinning. Last night, by the time we had returned. Kiren was sound asleep, like a child, resting her head against Kenshin, it was rather amusing to see him have to lift her off the horse and carry Kiren to her room. Shaking my head, I knocked on the door to her room, "Asuna?" I called out, making sure to use the fake name that I gave her. There was a long silence.
Wow, she must have been very tired to not be able to hear me.
"Asuna?!" Still no reply. I paused for a second, finally I pushed the screen door open. Scanning round the room, Asuna was nowhere to be seen! Her bag was still there...
Could she have been kidnapped?! Maybe Nobunaga, sent his forces after her and they tracked her here?!
I ran out the room and sprinted to the castle grounds until I found Lord Kenshin. He was eating breakfast with Shingen.
