It Could Be Worse

"Grammar?"

"Yeah, you know the whole fascination with S&M? My mom had that, but with commas and semi colons"

"How do you find a way to compare S&M with punctuations?"

"The same way my mother found out how to moan in just exclamation points"

They had just both burst out in laughter, neither holding back how much they wanted to laugh. It was pure happy emotion that both kids desperately needed in a time like this.

"You know about stuff like S&M? You look like the kind of kid that sticks to little science books and boring novels about the 'magic of algae'."

"Ouch"

"Well I'm being serious here, you really don't look like you can have any fun! Klaus, if you ask me, you look quite stuffy! You look like an old dad or grandpa even!" Y/N teased childishly.

"And you look like a sad grandmother who just lost another cat" he said attempting to make a joke on her clothing.

"Well atleast this sad grandmother can have fun." She huffed playfully "my clothes are completely fine by the way"

"Not if you ask me, gosh, you look like my nana!" he said while cringing away dramatically "what is fun to do around here by the way?"

"You're a smart kid, I'm fairly sure you'll figure something"

"Well, we can't go anywhere because we have people watching us everywhere.."

"Uh-huh"

"And we can't do anything too rowdy at his house because he would find out and completely ban it..."

"Yes, I've thought of all of this before"

"What if we uh... well actually we can't... I mean we could just... oh gosh we can't do that either...um what did you do for fun?"

"Meet cuties like you"

She may have said it jokingly but he didn't take it like that. Instead, the poor lad had remembered how he felt when he first met her. Absolutely and utterly infatuated, to say the least.

"Um, are you ok?" she raised an eyebrow

He knew he either looked lovestruck or had a dumbfounded expression.

"Yes I'm fine. I was just thinking about what other cuties there really are in this town" he said looking away from embarrassment "I'm in the market for someone I could read a few books about algae to" he said making his smooth recovery

"Oh, trust me there's no one"

He turned to look at her a little questionably (and maybe a little jealously)

"I came here bored and alone, I really don't want to leave bored and alone" she glared "That's all I'm going to say on romance for me"

He held his hands up in defense. He really did want to say "I could be the one to cure your loneliness" or something along the lines of specified clicheness, but ultimately, he didn't think it was safe to do right now.

She stood up and smiled down at him while extending her hand towards him. He took it gladly.

"Thanks for listening to my sob story" she looked at him smiling slightly. He had looked at her and smiled back shyly.

"Hey, Klaus, can we talk?"

"Violet? Uh yes, of course we can"

Klaus walked into the house leaving Y/N alone with his baby sister who just crawled out towards her.

"What is it Violet?"

"We've been here for less than a day and you're already flirting with our roommate?"

He turned red and could feel the heat on the back of his neck.

"She's just a friend" He muttered while taking a sudden interest in his shoes.

"Riiiiight!" Violet replied sarcastically "I'm in the market for someone I could read a few books about algae to" she said mocking his words

"You heard that?!"

"Sunny and I heard all of it" She grinned widely

Y/N POV

Klaus had walked in with his older sister while you were stuck with his gurgling baby sister. You weren't bad with babies but you also didn't like being around fussy ones. You had put on your signature smile and waved down at her.

"I don't have anything you can teeth with" you said looking around for an object she could chew on "Oh! Do you like carrots?"

Sunny babbled happily in response

You got a few of the damp carrots from a table that was sitting next to a sink. You inspected them for dirt and then handed them to Sunny happily.

You watched as she gnawed through the large carrots and crouched next to her.

"I'm really sorry you have to live here with the Count. He's awful, but I promised myself that after the last kids I would protect whoever came next" she was saying to Sunny as if she could answer back in coherent sentences "I'm glad I finally have a few girls with me this time"

Klaus had looked over at Y/N and Sunny and smiled at the two thinking here couldn't have been that bad with Y/N.
