Chapter Two – The Assignment
“Have you seen the food court yet?!” Jane asked Derek when they walked into the corridor of fourth floor after leaving 'Graphics Room 7b' or their new office “It's awesome!”
“No, not yet.” Derek answered, watching her as they walked; she was looking around, smiling wide. She was as excited as a fat kid in a chocolate factory would be. “Would you like to... Err...Go there?”
“You can.” she looked at him shortly with her big green eyes then looking back around. “I got exploring to do.”
“Right, mind if I join?” Derek looked around, blushing, trying to avoid her gaze, he loved her.
“Oh, no! You should go to the food court! They got a sushi bar! I know how much you love sushi.”
He hated sushi, but once he heard she loved sushi he asked her out to get some, and he told her that he loved sushi. Oh, how he planned that night. It was perfect, first they would go to the sushi place, then to the movies to watch a new comedy movie that would come out the next week and finally, they'd go bowling. But Jane brought her friends, ruining everything he planned. “That's great.” he sighed.
“What's the matter?” she stopped and looked at him.
“Oh, it's nothing...” he looked down “Well... To be honest Jane, I don't like Sushi, I never did. But the day I told you I loved it, well; I heard you loved them so I wanted to ask you out. It was a date.” he sighed again “I love you Jane.” he looked up at where Jane was standing, blushing deeply, but she was gone. He looked around and saw Jane in the distance talking to some guy. He looked at the guy carefully and remembered him from the meeting, his name was Mike. He had curly ginger hair, a muscular body, he was tall too. He had a tattoo of some kind of a symbol on his right wrist. Derek walked closer to them.
“Isn't he cute?” Jane was talking to Mike.
“Yes, very.” Mike nodded, looking at Derek.
“Who?” Derek interrupted, coldly.
“Derek!” Jane jumped as she just noticed him “Oh, I didn't see you. Um... This is Mike.” she nodded at the boy, trying hard not to laugh.
“Yes, we actually met at the meeting, this morning.” Mike smiled as he raised his arm to shake hands.
“Yes.” Derek shook his hand, putting on a fake smile. “So, who were you guys talking about?”
Jane gave Mike a nervous look. “Um... Nate Greebe?”
“Yeah! Nate Greebe.” Mike agreed, letting go of Derek's hand.
“Isn't he a little old?” Derek asked.
“Yeah well, I bet he has a girlfriend.” Jane shrugged.
“I agree, and he seems like a cool guy.” Mike commented.
Derek kept watching Mike coldly, trying to understand what he wanted.
“Oh, I need to find the ladies room, I will see you guys later!” Jane ran off, giggling.
“What's up with her?” Mike asked looking after Jane.
“No idea...” Derek shrugged also looking at the same direction.
Mike looked back at Derek and sighed, “You like her...”
Derek nodded coldly.
“Don't worry, I don't like her.”
“What?” Derek looked at Mike, smiling slightly out of relief.
“Yeah, I'm gay.” he shrugged.
