"ready?"
sixteen year old jeon jungkook smiles assuringly as he glances back at seventeen year old sora. it's hard to see backstage due to the lack of light, but the anxiousness on sora's face was clear as day, even beneath the make up and silver bangs from the wig yui made him. in just a few minutes, they wouldn't be sora and jungkook anymore, but soso and junghwa. this would be their first time performing in japan as their female personas. it would determine whether or not they'd even get any more shows in japan, so a lot was riding on this particular show. which is why jungkook isn't surprised to find sora's hands shaking as they stand backstage.
"hey" jungkook says, reaching over and grabbing the elder's hand with an assuring smile, "everything will be just fine, okay?"
"o-okay" sora replies, a hesitant smile on his lips, the exhaustion from the tour evident on his face when his eyes crinkles and the bags from several nights of lack of sleep are revealed.
"hey, you two are on!" yui appears, waving them off with a magazine urgently.
jungkook nods before grabbing sora's hand and pulling him along. the two stumble along in the darkness of backstage before jungkook can hear it, the crowd from outside. and now, even he feels a bit nervous too. but he knows everything will work out. it has to.
they arrive to the stage just in time, the curtains opening just as ryuu gives them a look that says, "what took you guys so long?".
jungkook just offers a sheepish grin before turning and being presented with probably the biggest crowd they've ever performed in front of as a band. it's a night club, but the place is packed. even with the way the crowd is bathed in dark neon blue lighting, he can see the excitement on their faces, eyes widen as they reach towards the stage in a mixture of hysteria and adrenaline. and jungkook feels the same way, a bit hysterical as he takes it all in. it felt a bit surreal to garner such a reaction from people, the way they shoved each other aside in order to just be front row.
but he knows that somewhere in the mix of the chaos, are a few hidden journalists and critics, waiting on the perfect moment to expose "junghwa and soso" for who they really are. the prospect was what made sora fumble nervously with his guitar strings. he accidentally plays a rather strange, prolonged chord, but the crowd eats it up, cheering loudly at the mistake. sora visibly cringes at the mistake, but thankfully the dark blue neon lights shroud their faces. the only thing the crowd can really see is their flashy outfits and the occasional hint of skin: a shoulder, a neck, an arm.
