"i didn't do it, you believe me don't you?"

jungkook glances over at michi eagerly from his position in the passenger's seat of the man's car. michi himself is focused on the road of him as he drives, briefly contemplating the question before the car pulls to a stop at a red light and he finally looks over at jungkook.

"of course kid." he says finally, allowing jungkook to breathe a sigh of relief because finally someone believed him. michi smiles in amusement at the relief evident on his face, "no offense, but you're too much of a nervous wreck to be dealing with illegal substances. so, if you didn't take it yourself, how the hell did it get into your system?"

"the person who stabbed me, i think they may have laced the knife with the DRR." jungkook informs him, because contrary to him passing his investigation, his memory was actually terrible from that day, he just remembered the excruciating pain of the knife as it pierced his skin, not being injected with this drug, one that he isn't familiar with at all, which is why he mumbles, "whatever that is."

"it was before your time, kid." michi says as if he's in his fifties instead of a mere twenty-eight. he smiles at jungkook fondly, an action that makes his already defined jawline that much sharper, his dark eyes crinkling as he regards the younger before he finally explains, "DRR was really controversial when i was a kid, really bad shit that the government was trying to hide. that's why there isn't much out there about it, the government wanted it swept under the rug. the reason why isn't that hard to tell, they're the ones who created it, but unlike with the machina, they were ashamed of the DRR, or rather, what it had done."

"what did it do?" jungkook asks curiously, watching as michi hesitates, turning his attention back to the road as he steps on the gas before finally answering.

"there's a place in seoul called toxi-town, really filthy place. believe it or not, that's where arata started out as a singer himself." michi replies, making jungkook's eyes widen. arata had once been a singer? well, now it made sense as to why jungkook felt his singing was the best when arata was the vocal coach for promotion periods instead of his actual vocal instructor. it also made sense as to why arata was so keen on seeing their dreams come true. so there really was something more to their manager than his greed? it made sense in a way, jungkook thought. but apparently michi knows it all because he huffs a short laughter before he continues, "that place is garbage, a literal toxic waste. the only way in is through barbed wire holes, if you're small enough to squeeze through 'em that is. that's why toxi-town has such a huge population of orphaned kids and runaways. i'm surprised you didn't end up there, kid. no offense."
