Summer party? Yes please!

The smell of freshly cut grass and pollen from the newly bloomed flowers clung to my nose. Despite it being the first day of summer break, I sat on my lawn doing my homework and some unfinished work that needs to be in when our break is over. The peace and quiet was almost too good to be true. Almost.

"Have you seen my shoes? I'm going to be late!"

The yelling voice of my younger, teenage brother pierced my peace, leaving me with a heavy sigh. I collected my things and got up, making my way inside the house I had been in since birth. I uttered the location of my brothers shoes to him as I walked by him and watched him dart to the kitchen. He was going on a date. I can't help but be jealous, i'm his older sister and now there's a girlfriend in his life; Tough crowd to please, aye?

I'm the first child of Laura and Marcus Thornwood, one of the founding families of Crescent-blaze. A medium-ish size town in the UK. My name is Luna Rose Thornwood. Ironic considering my surname and the name of our town, it's always a good ice-breaker joke. The second child is Orion Cormac Thornwood. He's the brother with a date this afternoon and then finally, the third child, Storm Percival Thornwood. All he does is binge TV shows and junk food. We all go to the same high school, but of course, we're in separate years. I'm sixteen and in year Ten. After summer break i'll be in year Eleven, and then two months after that, I'll be seventeen. Orion is in year Nine, he's fifteen. Storm is in year Eight and he's twelve, soon to be thirteen.

Although, speaking of dates, I have a coffee date with one of my best friends, Luci. Shes a bubbly, loud kind of person, though she had a great personality. Sometimes. She could be a bit of a bitch.

The walk wasn't too long to our favorite hangout place - "Lore's Cafe" - its comfy with a damn good atmosphere. It just wasn't great that I was constantly being given the evil glare from the counter by my ex-boyfriend brother, Cole. Kinda freaked me out a little bit, it pissed me off more though. Like I don't feel bad enough for breaking up with Lewis. I just hope neither of them are there when I open these doors.

So, I opened them, with a beam of confidence which faded immediately when I was that Lewis was sat with Luci. Hoping they didn't see me, I turned toward the door to walk back out. But Luci doesn't miss a single beat.

"Luna! There you are. We've been waiting for you."

Her bubbly personality and loud voice made it impossible for me to get away now. So I walked over. The awkward just flattening me as though gravity wanted to crush me.

"Oh, hey...you!" My voice was like a bowl of rice Krispies  when the first bit of milk overwhelms them.

Lewis sat there, sipping at his herbal tea, you could smell it so strongly. His love for minty things hasn't changed in the three months that I haven't seen him. Probably shouldn't have been avoiding him, might have made this less awkward. Thank Luci.

She gave me this massive cheesy grin that said 'I know what I've done and i'm not sorry so just suck it up and sit down.' So that's exactly what I did. Me and Lewis sat awkwardly, looking at the table while Luci watched us before it became unbearable for her.

"Okay, that's it. Shake hands and make up. We have a party to plan and you guys avoiding each other doesn't help anything. We're a team and we have been since birth. Get your shit together."

She wasn't wrong. We have known each other all our lives. Since birth, six of us have been inseparable. Me, Luci, Lewis, Ferris, Emily and Oliver. Of course, there were other kids we grew up with in the town and in school. But we had sleepovers almost ever single night. We would all get up at 7:00AM so we could shower and get dressed, eat breakfast and be out the house for 8:00AM  to meet up. We wouldn't get back home until 9:00PM. We did everything and anything together. Until Ferris died last summer. He was camping with his girlfriend when the two were brutally attacked by an animal. It was devastating for us all. We were like a tight-knit family that was born to be together.
