BEA POV
It had been a week since my talk with Ryker. I missed him like crazy but I knew I was doing the right thing. We weren't going to work out as a couple and that sucked, but it was better to have him just as a friend than nothing at all.
It was now officially prom season, which wasn't exactly the best timing given the current state of my love life, but I was still signed up for the dance committee with Miranda, so here I was currently selling tickets.
"I can't believe prom is only three weeks away and I don't have a date!" Miranda sighed as she put a money in the cash box as another ticket buyer walked away. She then seemed to freeze and look at me. "Bea, I'm sorry I know you just bro-'
I shook my head and placed my hand on her arm, "Mir, it's fine don't apologize".
"I just can't believe I'm complaining when you just went through such a rough breakup" She said regretfully.
"It's fine, I'm fine" I reassured her.
She arched an eyebrow at me, "Are you sure? You're really not going to get back together with Ryker?"
"It just won't work between us. I don't want to lose him,' eager to change the subject, I picked up a stack of flyers about the prom we had. 'I'm going to go hang more of these flyers up". I then quickly headed away, trying to reassure myself again.
RYKER POV
"Ryker... Ryker... Dude!" I was shook on the arm by Len.
"What? I'm sorry." I apologized.
"I was asking if you had figured out the answer to problem number 17" Len asked.
We were currently sitting in the library for study hall doing our math homework, but all I could think about was Bea.
"I'm sorry," I apologized again.
"Dude what is up with you?"
"I just can't stop thinking about her. I miss her like crazy and I know I fucked up, I'm not sure if she'll ever want to be friends again, let alone date".
Len looked sympathetic. "Maybe you should try talking to her now that things have cooled off".
It was perfect timing that she just happened to walk in to the library, my eyes darting toward, watching her every move.
Len noticed my eyes and turned around quickly. "Now is your chance, go talk to her."
I nodded, quickly gathering my things. "I'll see you around"
By the time I reached her she was starting to head out of the library so I followed her out.
"Bea!"
She turned around and stopped dead when she saw me. "Ryker hey." She greeted softly, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear, something I knew from years of knowing her that she did when she was uncomfortable or nervous.
"How are you?" I asked cautiously, trying not to scare her away.
"I'm good, I've been good. What about you?"
"I'm good,' I pondered whether I should go a step further, "I-I miss you Bea."
She looked surprised by my boldness and bit her lower lip before speaking, "I miss you too".
We looked at each other for a moment, before Bea looked down at the stack of flyers she was holding. "I should probably get going, I've got to go hang up the rest of these flyers."
She started to turn around but I knew I had to stop her. "Bea wait."
"Yeah?"
"Do you think... do you think we could try being friends again?" I asked nervously.
Slowly a smile, her beautiful, beautiful smile, crept on her face. "I would like that, just as long as you realize that we are just friends and we need to go slow".
"That sound perfect to me".
She smiled wider, "Maybe we could go out for pizza tonight? I need someone who likes the same toppings as me" she said, winking before walking off.
I smiled, I was going to win her back, no matter how long it took.
