there was a beautiful brown girl
who didn't know how
to love the curls
god gave her
she didn't know how
to love her chocolate skin
she hated herself
and the person she was
she wished she had flat hair with
no volume
she wished she had clear porcelain skin
with beautiful blue eyes
and blonde hair to top it off
one day
this beautiful girl
realized
this is who she is
and so she embraced it
and with each day
she found herself loving her
chocolate skin
and those beautiful wild
twisty curls
each day she found self love
and positivity
