It was tradition among Killian and his friends that whenever the school's team won the game of the night, an extravagant celebration would ensue. That tradition hadn't changed, especially now that Jeff was part of their group, since he was one of the players. Not only that, but the school committee was constantly coming up with ways to make the games more interesting, especially since it could get boring when everyone knew who was going to win. Surprises during the games were not uncommon.
Game night had finally arrived. Their rival school wasn't anything impressive, so the party had already been set up for the upcoming victory.
Killian and Emma had been playing a back and forth game of teasing for two days now, each relentless and unwilling to back down. That's what comes from two stubborn people who won't admit they're in love.
"There is no way I'm putting that on my face. I already put on all the preppy colors you wanted!"
"Come on, Em. If I of all people can dress to support the team, then so can you. I refuse to leave this house dressed like this if you won't be dressed the same," Killian said, smirking with his arms crossed.
"You sure you want to come to this?" Killian asked Emma as he continued to dress according to what Jeff had instructed. Apparently, team spirit was in order.
"Positive, Killian," Emma replied, rolling her eyes. She grudgingly smeared two lines of face paint on each cheek, then tied a ribbon in her ponytail.
"You look like a cheerleader," Killian snorted with a grin.
"Oh shut up, like you look any better," Emma scowled, a playful smile hidden in her lips.
"Well, you do!" Killian insisted.
"Is there a problem with that?" Emma asked, batting her lashes. She'd chosen short shorts that represented the team colors. (And also they gave her a slight edge in the little game going on between herself and Killian.)
"Not at all," Killian smirked, shooting her a flirty look.
The tension between them spanned miles thick. There had yet to be a talk that classified them as anything explicit, or a couple at all, and it was driving them both crazy. The thing was, neither of them could bring themselves to start the conversation. Things seemed to be going to well now, and they didn't see any reason to ruin that.
Flirty moments here and there, rare kisses hidden from Alice's eyes, and constant plays on words that between the two of them, they understood. That was what their relationship had developed into, and they loved it.
Only... Emma wanted more with Killian. And as much that terrified her... she wasn't opposed to the idea in the slightest. She actually felt confident about it. The only thing stopping her was the fear of losing him, though with Killian's words of assurance and recent developments, it was pretty clear he wasn't going anywhere any time soon.
"Alright, ready, Swan? Regina is just around the block," Killian said, finalizing the touches to his team spirit look. He turned to Emma, texting Regina that they'd be right down.
"Let's go," Emma grinned. She tightened her ponytail, put on her glasses, and took his hand to drag him downstairs to the door.
"Have fun, you two!" Alice called as Killian and Emma ran out of the house. She smiled to herself as they called back goodbyes and shut the door behind them.
"Race ya!" Emma grinned, setting off in a sprint down the long, extravagant driveway to meet Regina at the bottom.
"Hey, that's no fair, you got a head-start!" Killian called after her with a laugh as he began running.
