- Ashton's POV -
"I fell in love they way you fall asleep: Slowly, then all at once."
Brushing my finger over the text inked on to the mirky crisp pages. Tracing each line as I read. My finger catching on the often pigment of ink press ruffly. The newish smell of books drifted through my nose as I looked off the the next paragraph. Quickly glancing my head up toward the old clock mounted the wall. The silent ticking echoing off the walls of the store. The noise all most sticking to the cream walls. Seeking conners the cream walls lead to each nick of a book case. The old stained wood conners flowing out to reach the sky. Masked in old auburn reds or muse blues books line the shelves. Finding my self tracing the shelves looking away from the book sitting in the crook of my arms. Pages open to paragraphs upon paragraphs of writing. I let my attention drift bs to the book along with many books of newer books to stock. Pushing the pages ruffly together closing the book in a echoing clap my hands set it on to another pile. Checking the clock once more then pick up another stack of books. Before making my way to the shelf I snatched the book I was reading off the table.
My eyes quickly shot to the bright tittle looking of a couple. A soft blue tittle written along the bottom in a grace large text. Reading slowly my eyes drifted back to the cover picture. The fault in our stars.
Quickly shuffling over to a shelf placing the books in a stack on the wood floor with a creek escaping slightly. Picking up the first book to read some obnoxious tittle. Shoving the light green cover into the case to match a red one next. Shifting on my feet a light bell ding rang throughout the store my eyes quickly looking toward the door.
Three tall stocky boys shuffled into the door there laughs echoing off the wall. Slowly moving across the room toward me shoving and pushing each other making useless comments.
"Hey, ash!" Mickey called out giving my a excited wave, his face a blaze with a smile as he waved frantically shoving his way toward me. The familiar blond now lavished with green showing of his technicolor eyes with his smile. Mickeys face matched his bubbly Personalty, he likes to pout when he didn't get his way then laugh it off later. Michael and I have always been good friends, friends that joke around, mimic, smile and laugh.
A tan boy following Michael cut in a quick smile, Calum. Calum's tan skin and brown eyes mixed perfectly giving him a easy vibe. His cupcake face showed of a boy looking for fun and his frame built to a T. Calum'a boyish face reflected on his personality. A kid stuck in a teens body. Calum could be a five year old boy at sometimes but at others he's a good listener. Other then the often sarcastic comment he's very helpful.
Last a boy named Luke. Luke was more built then the boys and stood a bit taller then us. Maybe it was his hair which I may add is higher than the New York skyscraper, his height is quite scary. Along with a black lip ring punched in the left bit of his lip. Once you get past Luke's scary outside he's a mush ball. He's got a thing for penguins and that's never helped his punk rocker vibe. Luke I would say is the witty one. A sly comment always is been cracked. Though Luke's like our dad. He's always been there and always will be.
The boys trampled into the store wreaking there way toward me. Somehow they always make a mess of a place I like.
I loved my work. I could spend hours in the book store. Reading was a simple passion I had favoured ever since my mom pasted. The idea of another world kept my heart alive. I was I quite boy one to suffer in silence kinda person. I had a thing for romance novels and songs by Birdy. Muscle-T's and sappy quotes, simple songs on the radio, I enjoyed sitting in the rain and laying in the road. I was a cupcake. My dimples showing in every smile I show, my eyes caught in 'wonder' as calum says. I'm a strange boy as my mom used to say. Strange enough to like counting stars and flower crowns. My friends mess with my for that. The simple flower crown that sits in my head. The string of daises or some other flower perched on my head. I'd never take it off unless I had to. The budding flowers meant to much to me to give up. The tease Mickey always steals it, he sets it on his head and mocks me. It's not a big deal to me though. What they boys lack in love they make up for in laughs. Thats why there my best friends.
"You ever leaving this place?" Luke ask sliding his hand gently across a broad book, sweeping dust on the ground then sending a swift breath across it leaving the dust on the ground. Sly glancing back at me and whipping his hands on his jeans he raises a simple eyebrow.
"Yes, Luke." I stare blankly stating the words with no emotion a simple answer for a simple question. His eyes fixed on mine for a little struck with confusion but he casually shrugged it off. Leaving the subject raw he flashed me a simple smile.
"We have band practice soon." He continued shoving his hands into his jean pockets and looking up toward me. Slowly he began another smile showing untouched teeth. The glisten making me smile. Luke himself remind me of our band. Trying hard to be punk rock. The band stared a while ago, we had all settled on the fact that we'd be a "punk rock" band. We were failing. None of us seemed punk rock especially not me but the dream still lives. A crazy drummer, a boss ass base player, the sexy lead singer and the psycho guitarist. We didn't fit that description but a bands a band.
"So..." Calum cracked his voice snapping me out of my thoughts. Slowly I begun to relies the boys were toying with the books. Luke's hands were perched up on a shelf as him and Micky counted books. Constant mumbles of stray numbers slipping form there mouths as the counted. Calum's head was peaked out of a book, a old doctor who book with a unique tittle. His eye drifted from me to the book then back to me. I don't think he's even reading it. Just mearly looking at the words.
"Okay, boys you can go now." I commented quickly before taking the book from Calum's hands. Giving me confused looks as I pushed them toward the door. They didn't try to stop me they just left in peace. Pushing them out the door closing it with a ring of the bell they waved giving me one last smile then heading down the street.
A timid laugh left me lips as I watched the boys saunter down the road. Soon disappearing into the busy crowd of fifth street. Slowly a shallow sigh left my lips as I stared down the street. An average day in my average life. Letting myself let out one last sigh I turned back to the box of books. Slowly the blue tittle caught my attention. I quickly reached over for the book. The couple on the front in a happy state making me smile on the outside and in. I let myself read the tittle for a final time. Simple words of mumbles left my lips as I spoke.
