It started with that same old question.

The one where the interviewer asked who the girl was that he was standing with. His arm wrapped around her waist. Her cheeks a tinted pink from the moment the fans caught the boy kissing the top of her forehead. Her cheeks tinted pink just because everyone was complimenting her on the small details that they noticed about her.

“You’re going to have to tell them sooner or later. They already know who she is.” Luke advised his best friend; his newly added brother.

He sighed, collecting the small beads of sweat with his plaid designed flannel sleeve the manager forced him to wear in a terribly hot California weather. Deep down, he didn’t want to tell them. He wanted to keep her a secret. He didn’t want everyone invading their personal space, their own privacy. Summer wasn’t a model. She wasn't a famous actress in movies that they adored either. She was one of those people just working their asses off to get through life. There was something different about her that only he adored.

“I don’t think I want to,” He replied to the blonde guy sitting next to him in the mini van, “She’s not ready for those people following her on her way to the pizza parlor. It would scare the shit out of her if random people came flashing her with cameras and people mobbing her.” Ashton didn’t always curse like this. He only cursed around the guys, but never in front of the fans nor family.

Scrolling through Twitter on his small device, Luke shrugged his shoulders. “I know you want to save her from all of that, but it’s just part of our lives. You can’t keep her sheltered from everything. Later she’ll get used to everything, and it will be normal for her. This will probably be about the sixth or seventh interviewer and they have asked about her. It’s time.” Luke showed all the evidence of the fans catching up on Ashton’s life. The pictures they keep tweeting about her.

Michael leaned forward in his seat from the back to pat Ashton’s broad shoulders. “It’s weird for you isn’t it, huh? At least the fans will like her. I mean, Summer is a fan of us and you’re dating a fan. Maybe I’ll date a fan in the future.” Michael had little scenarios in his head about dating fans. The little hints he dropped lots of times to the large crowd.

Gazing his eyes out the window, Ashton nodded. “Yeah, it really is weird because I don’t think I’ve ever announced it like officially, you know? It’s been a while.” Ashton thought about his past break ups. It’s been a year since that, and he finally moved on from it.

“Well, we’re here! You guys nervous?” Calum asked as he stepped out of the van.

“Nope! We’ve done this so many times.” Michael rubbed his hands together smiling at the fans mobbing around the radio building.

With the help of the security guard, the four of them entered the lobby and was greeted with the interviewer. They all had the chance to get to know each other in a little minute of time before broadcasting the interview. They introduced themselves, made a few jokes that made no sense, and then answered a few twitter questions from fans.

The spotlight hit Ashton pretty hard. “You’ve been asked this millions of times, Ashton. Who’s the girl in the photos that people have been spotting between you and the girl?”

Ashton smiled widely when he spotted Summer on the computer screen. “We were heading to a grab a bite for lunch, and I guess the fans have spotted her with me for like the tenth time now. That’s Summer.” The guys smiled at how Ashton became nervous and shy just talking about her.

The interviewer laughed, “That’s cute because your band is actually called 5 Seconds of Summer! What’s your story? Tell us how you two started out.”

Ashton shrugged his shoulders, his eyes falling to look at the marble floor. “She’s shy, innocent, adorable, and annoying. I think that’s why I fell in love with her at a pizza shop.
