hello friends
i should be writing rn (some things are on the way and i'll try to be confident enough to post them someday!!) but i watched the first iron man movie today — i need to see the other ones asap i know — and i can't stop thinking abt tony stark help
im going to ramble about the mcu so if you want to stay for the emotional mess you are absolutely welcome :( spoiler alert!
i don't even know where to begin, i just really love tony and i wish i could give him a big hug. one of my favourite things abt him, just like with steve who's my favourite character (which makes civil war very difficult), is how human he is
he's made many mistakes and he certainly isn't the perfect hero, but he is heroic. he literally almost sacrificed to save everyone in the first avengers movie?? and despite his personal issues (anxiety, sleepless nights...) he still strives to do the right thing and he found in being iron man a new reason to keep holding on
when tony told pepper (i love her a lot!) "i don't have anyone but you", i felt that. tony must've felt so lonely and empty for so long but he hid it behind his lady-killer playboy façade. and when she gave him that heart thing with "proof that tony stark has a heart" written on it, it moved me so much because tony does have a heart, a messy broken heart
it reminded me of a tweet i saw with pictures of tony with pepper, tony hugging peter, tony with rhodey and tony with the avengers. as i said before, he does have a heart and he loves all of these people so deeply but even this ends up being taken away from him
you'll encounter some civil war and infinity war spoilers from now on so don't read if you haven't seen them yet and are willing to
as steve is my favourite character (if you follow me on twitter you probably know how much i love him), i've always seen civil war from his perspective. his bond with bucky is probably one of my favourite relationships in the whole mcu but i won't pick a side, because now i also see the picture through tony's eyes
the lines "but he's my friend" "so was i" made my heart shatter because even though cap and tony didn't always agree, they were friends, at least tony thought they were and now tony's only "family", the avengers, had broken up too
i can't imagine the pain he felt — he probably used to admire cap so much as his father was friends with him (if you've watched agent carter, you know how much of an impact steve had on everyone) and this person ends up leaving him too and is not as righteous as he believed he was
plus, steve left him for the murderer of his dad (it wasn't bucky's fault though, he was literally brainwashed and manipulated by hydra) so i think that tony's reaction could be understood because of grief and anger
(quick parenthesis to say that steve sending tony a letter at the end of all of this is one of the most beautiful things. he literally aplogised and said he hopes he understand. i love (1) caring man and his name is steve rogers)
also tony must've felt really guilty because of what happened to rhodey
then in iw, peter gets taken away from him and that's another person he doesn't succeed in saving. and he never got to say goodbye to pepper as well
i feel so sad now i'm sorry
i guess my point is that tony stark deserves happiness and love and to finally take some rest and time for himself. yet a4 will get in his way and im definitely not ready
and i don't even want to think abt what will happen to steve-
edit: i saw the 2nd and 3rd iron man movies and can we talk about how adorable tony is with harley in iron man 3?? i couldn't stop smiling during the "i'm cold" "i can tell. you know how i can tell ? because we're connected" dialogue. also, in the end, when he offered him new tools and car i may have got a bit too emotional because i love tony too much, oh well :'''') + the hello kitty watch. iconic. and the 3rd movie confirmed how much of a power couple pepper and tony are
anyways, thank you for coming to my ted talk and feel free to rant abt your favourite mcu characters in the comments! no hate will be tolerated though so please even if there is a character you dislike, move on and don't waste your time spreading hate and ruining characters for others
