About six hours into the train ride, Harry and I were in a conversation about Hogwarts when Hermione pokes her head into the compartment.
"Have any of you seen a toad? A boy named Neville lost one." She asks before she notices Ron has his wand in his hand, pointing it towards his pet rat. He had just mentioned a spell Fred and George gave him but I already knew it wasn't real, they told me it was a fake spell.
"Oh, are you going to do magic? Let's see then." She crosses her arms and Ron clears his throat awkwardly.
"Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow." He says almost confidently. We all sit there for a moment but nothing happens. He shrugs and goes back to eating his sweets making me smile.
"Are you sure that's a real spell? It's not very good, is it? I've only managed to do a couple of spells. For example..." she sits across from Harry, pointing her wand in his face, specifically his glasses. "Oculus reparo."
The tape that was holding his glasses together disappeared and Harry took them off, looking at them in amazement. I watch as a look of recognition flashes over Hermione's face.
"Holy cricket, you're Harry Potter. I'm Hermione Granger..." she trails off and glances back at Ron. "and you are?" She asks kind of snobbishly towards the red-headed boy.
"Won Wheezely." He says with his mouth full. I grimace with disgust and Hermione's face scrunches up.
"Pleasure." She says, clearly disgusted before standing up. "You three better change into your robes. I expect we'll be arriving soon."
She leaves the compartment before turning back and looking at Ron. "You've got dirt on your nose, by the way. Did you know? Just there." She wipes her nose, showing the Weasley boy where the dirt was before leaving completely.
Hogsmeade Station, early evening
The boys and I get off the train along with all the other students, all of us in our robes. I try to follow Harry and Ron but I easily lose them in the crowd. I shrug it off and follow the flow of the crowd until I hear a loud voice calling for first years.
"Right then! First years, this way please!" My eyes follow the sound until I see a large man holding a lantern and walking towards him.
"Come on now, don't be shy. Hurry up! This way to the boats!" I follow the man and the other first years down to the docks where we're loaded onto little rowboats. I end up in the same boat as the blonde boy from Diagon Alley and I'm guessing his friends.
I can hear them whisper about me but I'm used to it by now. The few times the Weasleys and I would leave the burrow there were always whispers. I ignore the three boys and look out at the water, wondering what creatures lived under the surface.
"Raelyn Hawthorne, right?" I look back at the little blonde boy as he said my name and raise an eyebrow. Since when was he nice?
"That's correct," I reply simply and stare at him waiting to see what he wants. He seemed nervous, it was kind of cute.
"I'm Draco Malfoy, and this is Crabbe and Goyle. I wanted to apologize for being rude to you the other day." he glances between his two friends and I sigh and look back towards the water.
