We seemed to be studying for hours! It was hard to pay attention when he kept looking at me with that eye. One covered and the other shown to the world.
"You see, when you square a number you basically times the number by itself. If that makes sense?" all I could wonder was what was under his hair. Oh! Maybe he had a arm sticking out of his ear that always pokes his eye so he covered it! Wait...no... That's too creepy... And just... Yeah... Or maybe he has no eye! I started to doze off and forget what he was saying, visioning what it could be.
"Paint? Earth to Paint! PAINT!"
"Oh! What? Hi, I'm alive. Say again?" I could feel my face warming up.
"Does all of this make at least a bit more sense?"
"uh. Maybe?"
"ugh, this is gonna be one long session!" Aces phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket. I tried to look at it without being suspicious.
"We still up for tonight?" the text was from a girl named Paris. Their was a picture of her above the name. She had galaxy colored hair, light purple eyes and blowing a piece of bright pink bubble gum. I couldn't tell if she had skin or if it was just the light, but her skin was super  pale! There was a full body photo of her sitting on stairs in front of some art museum i've  seen downtown. Before I could see the rest of  the photo he types "yes, oak park work?" and turns off his phone.
"Can I ask you a question, Ace?"
"Uh, yeah, sure, what is it?" I heard his phone buzz again but he ignores it. He looks at me waiting for me to ask the question.
"Why were you mean to me at school but now being super nice?"
"Oh! Uh, that's just a little thing I do at school, you know "playing the bad boy" I mainly do that so people dont judge me for being who I am, you know, not human" he says gesturing towards his orange fox ears and tail. "I thought that being bad and weird would keep people away from me so I dont have to tell them about why I'm a part fox and both of my "parents" are humans. Its just too complicated. But, its not like many other people would understand my struggles." he looks down at the book as I look at him.
"What about Ray, or Boomer, And Carlo, he's the Alpha male!" Ace looks back at me
"Trust me, no one makes fun of werewolves at school, that's just a bad idea. Especially not the Alphas of the packs. And Ray, even though he's part bear, both of his parents and grandparents are part bear." we both look down as I think of ways to make him feel better.
"Well, what about- " that's all I got to say before I heard a call from downstairs
"PAAAAIIINNNTTT! I'M HOME! YOU BETTER HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF YOUR ROOM WHILE I WAS GONE!" He was home. What about Ace?! Wait! I got it.
"Oh, someone's here, I think I should be heading out, my parents are probably wondering where I'm at anyways. What was that you were saying?" he starts to close his books and put them in his book bag.
"I-its nothing, I should start helping him" we both stand up and start heading downstairs. About halfway down the stairs I hear him ask
"Paint, who's that boy with you?" he stops unpacking and starts walking towards us
"Ugh, don't worry, we didn't do anything bad. he helped me study for the math test tomorrow  because, you know, I started half way though the quarter and have no clue what going on in any classes!"  we continue down the stairs and he heads out the door as we say our final goodbyes for the day.
"See you at school tomorrow, Paint!" and he heads across the street, unlocks his house and walks in waving across the street to me. We both close the doors at the same time. He looks at me. The look that said it all.
"Don't worry, he didn't figure out anything. Everything is still a secret." I walk upstairs and into my room to finish my homework.
