" Come on, bro, cheer up," Mabel suggested as she elbowed Dipper's side.

Dipper mumbles something under his breath and turns away.

" You know, I saw an interesting worm thingy in the woods. Want me to show you ?" Mabel asked softly with a look of sympathy while sitting next to Dipper on the front porch.

" No thanks, Mabel," Dipper responded glumly.

" Okay, Dip, but don't let this get you down. Trust me when I say things will get better, " Mabel cheered while patting Dipper on the back.

Dipper's eyes widened in surprise at the sudden gesture but otherwise remained in his sulking mood as Mabel headed inside. He still could not get over the fact of what happened that day.

9 hours earlier

The sun had just begun to rise, and through a window, you could see two kids sleeping in the attic. Mabel was hugging her stuffed unicorn as she slowly shifted to face the wall. Across the room, Papers surrounded Dipper. In the bucket beside him were 7 to 8 pens, all either chewed or out of ink. Dipper shifted to the left only to find that it had caused him to fall out of bed with a thud. Like a chain reaction that caused Mable to jump in surprise and also slide out of bed. With a yawn, Dipper stretched both arms and looked at the clock; it read  7:00 am.

" uh, Dipper, it's too early," groaned Mabel as she threw a pillow at Dipper.

"Common  Mabel, it's not that early," Dipper sighed.

Dipper made his way downstairs to have breakfast and almost tripped as he stumbled sleepily. He took a seat at the table and waited for Mabel. Back upstairs, Mabel was still recovering from the sudden jump scare of the day and decided that she might as well head downstairs for breakfast too. Just as she got downstairs, Stan came in carrying a plate full of his famous pancakes.

" Alright, kids, listen up. I'm going to need you two to help me with something today," he said.

" With what, Gruncle  Stan?" Mabel said with an enthusiastic smile, now fully recovered with the cup of Mabel juice still in one hand.

" Well, since the whole dinosaur fiasco, I started to think that maybe we could go scavenging   down for some treasure ."  Stan bellowed with a triumphant look on his face.

" I don't know, Gruncle Stan; we could still run into trouble, and the shafts looked unstable." Dipper replies in a hesitant tone.

" ah, come on, Dipper, it will be quick. Besides, I thought you of all people would want to explore,"  Stan urged as he looked at Dipper.

"Alright, but..." before he could finish, Stan slapped Dipper on the back,

"That's the spirit, now go get ready we leave in ten minutes, " he said gruffly.

" Wait, Gruncle Stan, I just remembered that me, Candy, and Grenda have a playdate today. So mind dropping me off on your way," Mabel gushed.

" Alright, Mabel, well, Dipper looks like it's just going to be you and me," announced  Stan.

" What about great Uncle Ford? He can join us too, right" Dipper nervously said.

" Oh, him, "  Stan mumbled with uncertainty.

" Fine, but you better hurry or I'm leaving, " stressed Stan as he crossed his arms and leaned back.

With that, Dipper nodded and started to head to the vending machine, already forgetting his earlier worries.  As he typed in the code, the door swung open, and he made his way into the elevator and pressed the third floor.  Once he made it, he headed towards Ford's desk, where his great-uncle seemed to be writing something down.

"Hey, Great Uncle Ford, me and Gruncle Stan are planning to go scavenging into some abandoned mines, and I was wondering if you wanted to come with us," Dipper said excitedly.

" Well, Dipper, I don't know. I am sort of in the middle of something," Ford mumbled without taking his eyes off from his work.

" Oh, okay, I guess maybe another time," Dipper said in a disappointed sigh.

Ford, finally aware of what Dipper just said, caught on to Dipper's tone of disappointment and turned around to see Dipper heading to the elevator. Quickly debating if he should go or not, he finally made up his mind.

" Dipper, wait, " Ford said.

" yes, Great Uncle Ford," Dipper questioned as he turned around.

" you know, maybe I should take a small break from this," Ford said to Dipper.

"You mean it, Great Uncle Ford, " Dipper exclaimed.

"Yes," Ford responded, standing up from his desk and following Dipper upstairs.

As they both arrived upstairs, Dipper made his way to Stan with Ford behind him.

" So, are you coming with us or what" Stan grumbled.

"Yes, I am Stanly," Ford countered.

All three of them made their way outside and started to walk into the forest, heading towards the abandoned church. While walking, Stan and Ford kept some distance while Dipper walked in between them. The silence was unnerving, so Dipper decided to tell Ford about the things down there.

" Hey, Great Uncle Ford, the last time we were down there,  we uncovered a dinosaur," Dipper began.

"Well, I'm not surprised; surely they found a way to survive through their extinction." Ford chimed in.

" Now I'm curious how you ended up in an underground cave system," Ford questioned Dipper.

" Well," Dipper said hesitantly, quickly glancing in Stan's direction.

" That can be a story for another time, besides we're here," Stan interrupted ruffly while looking down regretfully.

All three made their way to the abandoned church and saw that they covered it with parts of the ceiling and other rubble from the last time they had been there. It seemed that they had some work to do.
