Kassie's POV

"Take 10 before we start the full run through of the show!" Mrs. Mason told us as we all sat on the stage. "And I want costume pieces for the run through!"

"Thank you, 10!" We all said in unison.

I hopped off the stage and walked over to get my water and my phone from my bag. I checked the time. 8:00. Only two more hours. This rehearsal seemed to last forever. I sat down to stretch out my legs more. It's our first day of tech week for my school's production of Pippin. I'm so excited for our show. I got the role of Leading Player. It's my first lead role ever, and it's a role that's always been on my dream role list. I'm also the dance captain.

"Hey Kassie! I'm going to get my skirt and shoes from the dressing room. Want me to grab your costume pieces?" My best friend, Harper, asked as she passed me on her way to the dressing room.

"Yes please!" I answer. "Thanks, Harper!" She walked off and I continued stretching. Harper is playing Catherine in the show, but she's had big parts before. She was one of those people who always got leads in the school and community theatre shows, but unlike some people, she deserved them. She's insanely talented and drop dead gorgeous. She's a senior this year, and I have no idea how I'm going to survive without her next year. I've know her since 1st grade, and she's the only friend that's stuck with me through the years.

A few minutes later, Harper came back carrying my coat, shoes, and hat. "Thanks so much, Harper," I said as I started putting on my jazz shoes.

"Anytime," she smiles.

"Places for the top of the show!" Mrs. Mason calls.

"Thank you, places" we all murmured in response. We all shuffled backstage to start our run through. Or stumble through if we want to be accurate. The pit started playing the overture and so the - time through began.

To everyone's surprise and delight, the first stumble through wasn't as bad as we all expected it to be. Once we finished, we all sat on the stage for notes, and then we were finally released to go home. I went with Harper back to the dressing room to take off my costume pieces.

"You were awesome today, Kassie! I can't wait for opening night! You're going to slay!" Harper sang as we put our things away.

"Awww! Thanks, Harper. You we're amazing too, as always!" I hung up my jacket and put my hat and shoes in my bucket on the counter. Being a lead for the first time also meant I got counter space in the dressing room for the first time.

Harper and I stayed after for a few minutes to help clean up. We threw away all the trash in the dressing rooms and hung up any costumes that were thrown around. Then we made our way to the theatre and picked up all the trash left there. "I appreciate your help, girls!" Mrs. Mason said from the booth, "but I've got it from here! You girls did great today! Now go home and get some rest!"

"Thanks, Mrs. Mason," we responded.

"See you girls tomorrow," Mrs. Mason said as we walked out. I took my phone out of my bag and texted my sister to come pick me up.

Kassie: We're done. You can come get me now.

Erin: I'm already here. Parked out front.

"Woah! Erin's already here?" Harper gasped as she looked over my shoulder at my texts.

"Yeah! I wonder what's up?" I laughed. Erin was almost never on time, let alone early, so this was a shock to both of us.

"Well, there's my mom!" Harper said, walking towards her mom's car. "See you tomorrow!" She called over her shoulder.

"See ya!" I yelled back as I walked to Erin's car. "What are you doing here on time?" I laughed as I got into the passenger side of the car.

"What?" She fake gasped. "Am I not allowed to be on time to pick my little sister up from her rehearsal?"

"Yeah, whatever," I rolled my eyes and turned up the music. I love riding with Erin because we play our showtunes full blast and belt along (normally off- key), and no one can stop us. Newsies was on at the moment.

"GIVE LIFE'S LITTLE GUYS SOME INK, AND WHEN IT DRIES, JUST WATCH WHAT HAPPENS!!" We both belted at the top of our lungs. Erin turned down the music.

"Hey! Why'd you turn it down? I was pretending to be as talented as Kara Lindsay!"

"I meant to ask you, did you ever hear back about your audition for Newsies?"

"No. And I probably won't because I didn't get it anyways. There were hundreds of other girls there who were prettier than me, or thinner than me, or better at dancing, or better at singing, or better at acting than me," I looked down at my hands.

"Kassie, you're the prettiest, and most talented girl I know!" Erin remarked, kindly. "I'm sure they're just taking a while to make their decisions. I'm sure you got it! and even if you didn't, it's them missing out, not you. Any production would be lucky to have you."

"Thanks, Erin," I grinned. She always knew how to cheer me up. Erin turned into our driveway.

"I love you, Kassie," Erin said as she stopped the car.

"I love you, too, Rin." We got out of the car and walked inside.

When I got inside, my mom wasn't sitting in her normal spot in the living room. "Mom!" I called.

"Maybe she's in the kitchen," Erin noted. We walked into the kitchen, and I saw a huge 'Congratulations' banner hanging on the wall. My mom was leaning on the counter, and next to her was a tub of my favorite green tea ice cream.

"What's all this for?" I asked.

"Remember that audition you went to for Newsies?" Mom asked, grinning.

"Yeah," I answered, suspiciously.

"I got a call today. Kassie, you've been cast in the national tour of Newsies!!"

"OH MY GOD!!!" I exclaimed. "ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?!" I was on the verge of tears. Happy tears. It was my dream to be in a professional show! And being on tour means I get to travel, too!

"YES!!" Erin chimed in.

"I can't believe this!!" I was beaming.

"I can!" Mom smiled, proudly "I always knew you were going to do great things! My little girl is growing up and living her dream!"

"I'm so proud of you! I knew you could do it, Baby K!!" Erin giggled.

"Hey!" I pushed her, playfully. "I'm not a baby anymore! I'm going on tour with a Broadway show!"

"You'll always be my baby girl!" My mom gushed as she hugged me.

"And you'll always be my baby sister!" Erin added, joining the hug. "Now lets celebrate! I didn't pick you up on time for nothing!"

"I knew there was a reason you were on time!" I chuckled. "Now, lets crack open this ice cream! It's not going to eat itself!" I grabbed the tub of ice cream and carried it into the living room. We didn't even take the time to dish it out. We just grabbed spoons and stared digging in.

I can't stop smiling! I just can't believe it! I'm going on tour with Newsies
