Part 2::

I wish at times like this I knew my family, I have been with the Gardez family since I can remember.

Manate is always working, I have no mother figure - bar my nanny and I am forever stuck with Mason.

My childhood has been somewhat difficult, what with growing up without the feeling of compassion or happiness - it can break one down to a very raw element and to others I may come across as shy or hidden.

School was also an issue, I was not allowed to make friends! Even If I tried Mason would always be sure to set me straight.

Every night Manate would stare at me and would make me feel inadequate or undervalued, like he was waiting for me to do something.

"Alira, go fetch Mason and bring him to me right now!"

I would always do as I am told, if you didn't know my family you would think I was their perfect daughter..

advanced grades, respectful and always did the right thing by everyone - but I was made to be this way by them, forced to feel nothing and be systematic.

I nock on Masons door

"Mason, Manate has requested your prescence!"

"Piss off Alira - I don't have time for my stupid father, tell him im busy"

I peer into his room, only to find him watching TV.

I hate lying to Manate, he sees right through me and it doesn't help my situation.

"Please Mason! You know what he will do to me if you don't come-"

I see him throw the controller on the floor and walks to me, I can see that he isn't happy and I know what is to come next.

He pushes me into the wall and puts both his hands on the side of my face and a knee between my legs pinning me to the wall.

"I don't know what my father wants with you"

he looks at me with disgust

"But the sooner you are out of my life Alira the better we all will be"

he gazes deep into my eyes, I stare back trying to hold my ground but I fail and look down.

"That's right Alira, know your place-"

"Mason - please"

I beg

"Why are you like this to me?"

I look up only to see him still watching me.

"Alira you are nothing to me, you are a worthless object that my father only keeps to play with"

he shrugs with a sigh

"You know he doesn't love you right? You know you are only here for that stupid prophecy he talks about"

It upsets me the way Mason talks to me, but I have to respect him.

"Mason-"

I look up to him with my pleading eyes

"I don't- Im not-"

I sigh in defeat

"Im sorry I interrupted you, I will be sure to be more careful next time"

And just like that he won.

He slowly releases his knee from between my thighs and says

"One day Alira, I will find a way to break you - one day you will be begging for me to take your life!"

He pushes away from me, and looks away.

"Alira, I expect my room to be clean when I come back"

He walks a few paces away and I breathe in deeply and softly whisper so that only I can hear,

"I'm not giving up on you Mason - I know you are different!"

And just on cue, Mason turns around and runs back to me and gazes into my eyes as only he can do when he looks at me

"I almost forgot happy birthday Ria!"

He quietly says and turns and runs off.

I stand there for a second trying to take that whole conversation in, I sigh and turn to his room and start tidying up.

Why is he like this to me?

I can't seem to figure it out but the one thing I do know - I'm not giving up!
