Prologue: A Broken Heart

The light reflects off of the small puddle that has formed from the rain this morning. The moon has always made even the saddest and most depressing days seem brighter. That seems to be why most people love night time. Or maybe it's the silent atmosphere that puts everyone into a peaceful rest.

I dip my fingers into a small puddle of water and watch as the liquid swirls in a circular motion. It brings a smile to my face to see my ecstatic expression staring back at me. I'm always happy now that I have someone who loves me for me. Before I met him I was just a quiet girl who kept my head down and stayed out of everyone's way. He makes me feel like I'm no longer invisible.

"Amber, baby, what are you doing?" I smile before I even turn around to see him. Everything about him brings a smile to my face; especially his voice.

I stand up and turn around, facing the bright green eyes that always make me forget about what is going on around me. All that matters is him and I. It's just us.

He smiles down at me, standing a few inches taller, but it isn't much. I'm almost his height, mostly because I'm wearing heels. My heart races as he tenderly reaches his hand up, pushing my hair out of my face. His hand gently pulls away, only to stroke the surface of my cheek. My eyes unconsciously close as a sense of pleasure and relaxation over come me.

Without opening my eyes, I stand on my toes to kiss the lips that always make me fall into a bliss. He always has that effect on me and it is only one reason of a million why I love him.

Our lips collide in an instant, considering he meets me more than half way. When his smooth lips touch mine, sparks fly. My heart is begging to jump out of my chest; it hurts so much crashing against my ribs. My hands have a mind of their own as they travel up his shirt, gripping it lightly, before finally running through his perfectly soft hair.

I moan lightly in the back of my throat as his lips move faster against mine. It's like a rhythm the way our mouths move together, we both are so familiar with each other's lips, we know exactly what to do.

His hands move from my cheeks, to my hair and then all the way down my body until they reach my waist. I'm definitely not the most beautiful girl in the world or hottest, but I'm not completely ugly either. I'm average, but he doesn't seem to think so. He loves me for me.

Sadly, he pulls back, a bright-as-the-stars-over-our-heads smile on his handsome face. He has the face of a god and I'm yet to find a single flaw. I almost fainted when I first saw him smile.

Holding my waist tightly, he looks around at the deserted park and whispers, "Let's go for a walk, baby."

I nod my head slowly, still in a trance from that wonderful kiss. He pulls back and takes my hand in his before walking along the worn down cement pathway. I look at him, hoping he won't mind me staring.

"You always know how to plan a date," I smile, looking ahead at the glistening water flying high out of the water fountain. It just adds to the beauties the park has to offer at night.

A cold breeze flows by gently, tickling my skin and I shiver lightly, hoping it will go unnoticed. Of course these small gestures are always caught by Derek; he always acknowledges these unimportant actions.

"Here, Ambs, take my jacket," he instructs. I shake my head, pulling away quickly. I don't want him to sacrifice his warmth just because I decided to wear a skirt and short sleeve shirt. I didn't know what Derek had planned and threw on the first thing I could find. He had texted me in the middle of the night that he needed to see me and I had snuck out to meet him. It's been a while since he's wanted to see me so randomly.
