Only edited once. Sorry.

I went back and edited a few things and moved the character list to the beginning of the book (which I thought I did already). So if you had an update notification, that's why and I apologize. Here's the actual update though.

Love you guys!

Chapter 2

My faded pencil grazes across the paper as the words form in my head effortlessly. English is my least favorite subject, but it's the easiest for me and still beats gym class. Science -biology, specifically- is my favorite and I want to be a doctor, already sure of which out-of-state college I want to apply to. Derek is supposed to be attending the same college as me, and we had plans to spend the entire summer together before driving a thousand miles in the late summer. That was the plan, but some obstacles seem to have gotten in the way, possibly ruining all of our future plans together. Now I'm not so sure what will happen. My only plan is to get Derek back.

The bell cries above our heads, causing me to jump from the sudden noise that interrupted the silent classroom. I sigh in relief as my eyes drag up and down my neatly written essay, hoping it will be good enough to maintain my impeccable grades.

"Hand in your papers and then you may exit," The older woman teaching this class announces, sitting up erectly in her uncomfortable looking chair after spending the last twenty minutes on her laptop instead of grading our recent homework assignment.

I stand up from the tiny desk along with others who want to get to lunch early and make my way to the front, careful not to get in anybody's way. I have always been the girl who lets people walk all over her because truth be told; I don't care. Even when I was Derek's girlfriend, my personality didn't change and I stayed out of everyone's way. I was friendly to his friends and socialized when he wanted me to, but only ever came out of my shell for him.

Unconsciously a fake smile occupies my face in a polite manner as I hand my paper to Mrs. Newton. Like always, she keeps a straight face and accepts the essay she'll most likely not bother to glance at or leave to grade until next month. Without saying a word or acknowledging anyone else around me, I swiftly leave the almost empty classroom and make my way towards my locker.

The stares and whispers had ended as quickly as they started and I'm thankful for being able to go back to being invisible. A lot of people were shocked by the news of Derek and I breaking up and would always make it obvious that they were talking about it when I walked by them in the halls or exited a bathroom stall to a gaggle of girls surrounding a mirror.

Logically I know it's not me people are gossiping about, but instead Derek since he's always been at the top of the social ladder. Every girl wants to be with him or at least be friends with him and I know his friends probably think his schedule is more open now that he's single.

Technically he's not single, but I try not to think about that because it always makes me cry. It's one thing to end our relationship because it's not working out between us, but it's another to end it for someone else. Someone I didn't even know was a threat until it was too late to take said threat out of the equation.

Twisting the knob quickly, I plug in the appropriate numbers and wait for a just barely audible click before popping it open. After retrieving my lunch money, shoving books in, and taking some out, I slam the door shut, angry at the thoughts of Zoey invading my mind.

I had met her a few times since she's in Derek's crowd of friends, but she never made it obvious she had eyes for my man. To this day I still can't recall seeing them alone together or noticing something odd like the hiding of his phone or canceling plans last minute. Even now it still doesn't feel real and I'm unsure if that's just a biased opinion since I'm the victim or if they hid it that well.
