Betrayed and Back
Chapter One
Percy awoke to the sounds of the winds howling and the sea raging outside. He had only seen something like this once before-when Zeus's lightning bolt was stolen. Once again, it looked like the sky and sea were fighting, almost as if nature was in war with itself.
Sighing, he hauled himself out of his bed in Cabin Three, expecting him to be summoned into the Olympus throne room today. After all, he somehow always got stuck in between the gods' bickering. Percy got dressed and rushed out of his cabin to greet his best friends, Piper, Jason, Leo, Hazel, Frank, Nico, and Annabeth.
"Hey, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth smiled at him, but he could tell that she was distracted. She kept glancing at the sky, which was so dark it matched her own eyes. She also looked like she barely got any sleep. Her hair was tangled and messy and she had dark circles under her eyes.
"Anyone know what's up with this psycho weather?" Leo asked, fiddling with his Archimedes sphere, which he always seemed to have with him after the quest for Gaea and her army.
"I don't know, Leo. But I just have a feeling that it'll involve the eight of us," Piper replied, biting her lip. Jason reached a comforting hand to her, which she accepted gratefully. "Anyway, we have to go eat breakfast."
Just as Percy started to walk with the others, Annabeth reached her hand out to stop him. "Wait, Percy."
"Is something wrong, Wise Girl? You look terrible," he said, turning his head to one side.
"Actually, something is wrong. I've been having these dreams for the past couple of nights," she shivered and he wrapped his arms around her. He knew how devastating demigod dreams could be. "But these are worse, Percy. All of us getting tortured, drowned, whipped," she sobbed.
"Shhh... they're only dreams, Annabeth. We're safe now," Percy tried to console her as she wept in his arms. "Why didn't you tell the others?"
"I didn't want to bother them with some stupid dreams," she dried her tears and got out of Percy's grasp. They walked toward the dining pavilion until they heard the shrieks of someone calling out their names.
"Annabeth! Percy! Wait!"
The two of them whipped around to find Thalia running towards them at top speed. She crashed right into Percy, who grasped her arms tightly.
Percy's POV
As I grasped onto Thalia's arms, I looked into her eyes. They were filled to the brim with tears, which shocked me since she was one of the toughest girls I knew. Her electric blue eyes were darting around everywhere and her clothes were ripped. She looked like she ran all the way here from the other side of the country.
"We have to get out of here now. Lady Artemis hid me and brought me to the council meeting. Percy, they want us-"
Thalia never got the chance to finish her sentence, since the next thing I knew, Nico, her, Jason, Hazel, and I were standing in the throne room of Olympus, facing some very angry gods. Poseidon and Zeus were arguing in hushed tones. I only caught a few of their words-never, betray, loyal, saved us, dead, powerful. I had a painful feeling in my gut that I knew what this was about. But they wouldn't hurt us, right? Not after all we did for them.
"Ah, heroes, you have arrived," thundered Zeus. We'd been standing here a good five minutes...
"There is a reason we have called you here. The council has decided that you five are too powerful too live," he declared. At once, there was a huge uproar.
"The council has NOT decided! These are the most loyal and brave heroes of the century! It would be most unwise!" spoke up Athena, surprisingly. "My daughter would be devastated..." she murmured at the end.
"You can't just kill us! Not after all the sacrifices we made for you! Not after everything we did!" I shouted. Anger and hate was filling up every molecule of my body. I could feel my face growing hotter after every word I said.
"ENOUGH!" The Big Three said at the same time. My father was siding with Zeus?!
"Father! You're going to kill your son?" I asked forcefully. Nico and Hazel nodded behind me, but I barely noticed them. I thought my own dad would fight for me, not against.
"Percy, listen to me. I do love you," I scoffed at that, "but we can't be unseated from our thrones. There is too big a possibility that you would join an opposing side. It is too big a threat." Poseidon tried to look sympathetic, but I knew better.
"If you really loved him, you would trust Percy enough to never fight against you! There is NO possibility that we would join another side," Jason yelled.
"I said enough! Fire on three!" Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades took aim with their weapons, but I won't die without a fight. I mustered every ounce of strength I had and pulled out Riptide.
"One,"
"Two,"
"Three!"
And that's when all Hades broke loose. A searing pain erupted in my stomach and bolts of green light shot through me in every direction. One beam shot Poseidon right in the chest, and he crumpled to the floor. Another hit Hades in the arm and he lifted, paralyzed in the air and unable to move.
Zeus watched in outrage as his brothers were defeated. Jason summoned lightning bolts at him, but Zeus just as easily deflected them. Thalia shot arrows at her father, tears streaming down her face. Eventually, even Zeus was tired out by us five superpowerful demigods.
I created a gigantic earthquake to get a headstart and screamed, "Run!"
The five of us raced out of the throne room and headed for the elevator. It seemed as if the faster we ran, the farther away the door seemed. I ran and ran and tried to drown out the world, the sounds of Hazel sobbing, the wheezing of Nico's breath, the noise of the minor gods and nymphs going about their daily lives.
But suddenly, I felt my body stiffen. Something was watching me, though it didn't seem unfriendly. My instincts told me to stop, and I've learned to trust my instincts over the past years.
"Percy...what's...wrong?" Jason panted as he, too, looked around.
"Someone's here, watching us. I can feel it," I said. It seemed strange that I didn't even break a sweat while the others were barely able to speak.
"Ah, I knew you would make a great leader, Percy," a disembodied voice boomed. Upon instinct, I drew Riptide and swung the blade in an arc. The voice, however, merely chuckled and said, "Oh, you won't be needing that. I've come to offer a new life to all of you. A new, refreshing start."
"No thanks, my girlfriend, my parents, and my camp need me." I replied instantly.
"Frank and Piper, too." Jason said.
"And besides, we don't even know who you are. Why should we trust you?" Nico asked warily.
"My apologies. Let me introduce myself." A swirl of darkness appeared in front of me, shaping into a man's silhouette. He was a tall man with a muscular physique, dark eyes that seemed millions of years old. What caught my attention was his cloak, however. Thousands of galaxies and planets were decorated on it. Somehow, I knew it wasn't just a design. It seemed like he was wearing fabric of outer space itself. "My name is Chaos, creator of the universe, and the most powerful being in existence."
