YANG HONGSEOK let out a tired breath as he entered his small townhouse, his eyes slowly growing heavy after he closed and locked the door. He quietly crept through the halls, reading the small note his mom left him before turning off the lights and peeking through the ajar door. There he saw his pride and joy sleeping soundly, his small and chubby arms wrapped around the neck of his bunny plush. The man ever so silently approached his child and kissed his tan forehead, his rough thumb stroking Juhyung's full cheeks before turning off his bedroom light.

Hongseok then quietly left his son's room, leaving a small crack open and went to his room. He peeled off his uniform slowly before dressing into a comfortable pair of sweatpants and a loose sweatshirt. Taking off his contacts, the boy slid into his bed and threw the covers over his body, shutting his eyes.

ding dong!

His eyes suddenly popped opened at the sound of the doorbell,  groaning as he threw off his blanket. Sluggishly walking over to the door, he looked through the peephole to see a girl standing on the landing. Who in their right mind would show up at a stranger's door at 1:30 AM?

Hongseok contemplated whether he should open the door or not, pursing his lips together as he thought about it. The door bell rang for a second time before there was a soft knocking on the door, the man letting out a confused breath.

"Daddy, why aren't you answering the door?", Juhyung poked his head out of his room, rubbing his eyes tiredly as his small feet pitter-pattered against the wooden floors. He turned to the six year old boy with a tired smile, ruffling his soft hair and sighed.
"Because it's someone we don't know, Juhyunggie"

The  short boy tilted his head with a frown on his lips, crossing his arms over his chest with the bunny still on his person. "But daddy, you are a police officer! Shouldn't you help anyone and everyone you see?", he asked innocently, looking into his father's tired eyes.

Hongseok's shoulders fell, a gentle breath escaping his lips as he gazed at Juhyung. He looked so much like him which made him proud : the same warm eyes, the same tan skin, almost everything. Everything except his lips, the lips his mother used to have. The lips that used to kiss Hongseok every day, that would emanate her soft voice and beautiful laugh, the same lips that told him that she was leaving.

But that was a story for another day.

To put it simply, if his son looked like a lot like his mother then he wouldn't have known what to do. Of course Hongseok would have loved Juhyung all the same, but it would hurt him so much more to look at the person who he cherished and loved everyday when he looked like the woman who left him with a bullshit excuse. The woman who toyed with his feelings and left a family behind, the woman who couldn't love the both of them anymore.

"What did I tell you about 'stranger danger'?", Hongseok asked, bending down to his level. Juhyung pouted, his lower lip jutting out as he looked at him.
"But you help strangers everyday! And, it's cold outside! We can't have he-slash-she freezing to death!", he urged, his eyes growing wide out of fear. "Daddy, we have to help he-slash-she before he-slash-she dies!"
