17 - You?

"Dahee?" Mina said incredulously as she stared at the black-eyed vampire who held a candle stick in her hand. Her face was impassive, as always, and her hooded attire made her look like a shadow.

"You know this vampire?" Jaebum said incredulously from behind her.

Mina crossed her arms, frowning. "Kind of. Where's your master?"

Dahee blinked at Mina, "dealing with other things. She sent me down here to retrieve you."

She glanced back at Jaebum, "great, let's go."

Dahee didn't move as she stared at Jaebum. "I came to retrieve you. Just you." She said to Mina, staring pointedly at the male behind her.

Mina frowned, "umm, no offence, demon girl, but Jaebum is coming with me."

Dahee narrowed her inhuman eyes at Mina, "I follow orders, I don't change them."

"Well tell Cecilia to get her ass down here if she has a problem with me bringing my friend along!" Mina protested, blinking as Dahee's viscous look.

"Watch your tone, girl, you're lucky of that heritage of yours." Dahee said cryptically and Mina and Jaebum exchanged looks.

"What's that supposed to-" Mina began but Jaebum cut her off by putting a cold hand on her shoulder.

"It's okay, go ahead, I'll find my own way out." He said but she looked at him in shock, shaking her head.

"No! I won't leave you!" She growled, turning back to Dahee. "Either he comes or I won't come at all."

Dahee turned around, "don't come then."

Mina widened her eyes, panicking, "uh- wait! Look, I'll speak to Cecilia and sort something out when we see her, okay? I'm sure she won't mind."

Dahee thought for a moment before nodding, beckoning them to follow her into the depths of the darkness that swallowed them all whole.

"This plan won't work." Yeona sighed as all the wolves stood at the entrance of the catacombs.

Yuna shot her pack-mate a look, "I know optimism isn't your best trait but please try and be less pessimistic."

"It's not pessimism it's realism." Yeona shot out and Chaelin nudged the two of them.

"Enough, you pair." Chaelin warned, turning back to Junmyeon who was scanning all the wolves in front of him, his pack rotated around them and scanned the open grassy field.

"Namjoon's pack will stay out here on guard. My pack will go in first to scout ahead and Chaelin's pack will follow behind as backup." Junmyeon said.

"Since when was we backup." Hana muttered, looking sideways at her alpha who only rolled her eyes.

"Let's go." Junmyeon ordered and the assigned packs got into their ranks and began piling into the catacombs. Namjoon gave Chaelin a nod of good luck, eyes twinkling with something nobody could read.

Jongin was pale, nerves and anxiety rushing through him. What if she had been mutilated beyond return? What if she was in a never waking coma? What if she didn't remember them? What if she was too broken to function? What if-

"Jongin, stop worrying." Kyungsoo said reassuringly, putting a hand on his pack-mate's shoulder as they piled into the dark abyss and down the stairs.

"So, this mate of yours, he's in your pack right?" Jaebum asked in interest, walking alongside Mina as Dahee lead them quietly.

Mina pursed her a lips and nodded, "yeah."

Jaebum shook his head, "what a crazy coincidence they found you, you joined their pack and you're his mate."

Mina hummed, "well, more like I found them."

Jaebum gave her a raised eyebrow look, "oh?"

"I- well I ran away from my old pack as I didn't agree with their... way of life. That's when I bumped into Cecilia, Dahee's master, who guided me into the direction of my mate's pack. I got there, figured out he was my mate and the alpha accepted me as one of their own." Mina explained and Jaebum's eyes glinted.

"Wow, drama." He whistled and she snorted, crossing her arms to try and cover her breasts that were only covered by a bra.

"And this other pack, well we kind of have an alliance with them before I left, so they helped my old alpha try and find me. Shit hit the fan, hunters shot me and yeah, here I am." Mina spread her arms with a nervous laugh.

"You made a good decision." Dahee spoke from her position at front and both Jaebum and Mina shot their heads in the vampire's direction. "Chaelin has passed her expiry date."

Mina was so shocked she paused, "I never told Cecilia my old alpha's name."

Dahee turned to face her with an impassive look. "You know my master knows you, she knows more about you than you know of yourself."

Jaebum and Mina shared another glance as the male raised his eyebrows, "drama."

Dahee froze, dark eyes widening as he nose twitched. She spun on her heel, lifting the candle in her hand ahead as if looking for something. Mina sniffed the air and caught a faint scent, one she recognised immediately. For some reason her stomach erupted into butterflies and she went to run towards the direction he was but Jaebum tackled her.

The male yelped as he body slammed Mina, and she picked up another scent from behind them. Hunters. Dahee looked to the side as if someone speaking in an earpiece, not even flinching as multiple arrows were fired into her slender body.

Dahee turned to Mina, "change of plans."

"What?" Mina shrieked, allowing her canines and claws to slip out as she was ready to fight off the hoard of hunters from behind her.

She noticed Jaebum was wincing and the scent of blood hit her, her eyes widened as a bullet was lodged in the back of his neck, right where her head was. He took a bullet for her-

Pure and undiluted anger laced through Mina's body as she roared. Dahee glanced down at Jaebum and then Mina. "Your pack is here. Stay alive, Mina. Cecilia still expects you." And then the vampire faded into dust and ash.

"You could help!" Jaebum shouted at the ash that fell to the floor and was swept away by an invisible wind. Yelping in pure pain as he tried ripping the bullet from the back of his neck.

Mina froze momentarily as there was another roar from far behind her- her pack answering her call. She grinned as she ran at the hunters, claws and canines flashing.
