The Shadows Within

Chapter 7

Atem's POV

It's been three days and Isis and Ishizu aren't any closer to figuring out how we are going to merge Yugi's soul back together. He's getting very agitated from being stuck in the apartment. Good thing for us is that the spell will keep him in unless someone takes it down which that won't happen. I needed to get away for a bit so I went to get groceries. I come back in with the bags of food and put them away. "So the asshole has returned," says Yugi. "I'm not exactly in the mood for your shit right now," I say and finish putting stuff into the fridge.  

"Then let me out and you won't have to deal with me anymore," he says. "You know why I can't do that," I say. "Why do you keep holding onto this silly notion of me getting my humanity back," he says. "Because you're my mate and I want my mate back," I say. He shakes his head and storms into the bathroom. I go and see Isis and Ishizu to see if they've got anything. I walk into their spell rooms. "Please tell me you've got something," I say. "You happen to be in luck today Atem," says Ishizu.

"Yes we've managed to figure something out," says Isis. "Alright lets hear it," I say walking up to their vision pool. Isis waves her hand over the pool and a picture appears. "So what we know about the spell that did this, is it's dark," she says and a shadowy figure appears and it looks like it could be me or Yugi. "The laws of nature require that there is a balance to dark in the form of light. Which is the magic we use," says Ishizu and another figure appears and it's Yugi as he was as a human surrounded by light.  

"I understand that and know that since I wield shadow magic myself. So what does this have to do with our spell," I say. "The dark spell that was used to resurrect Yugi has a light spell to balance it. It was deep in our spell books as it's not used very often. This spell merges the soul back together and will restore his humanity. He'll be back as he was before his death. The only side effect is that he'll need to feed more to keep himself sustained, but that shouldn't be an issue," says Isis.

"No it won't. What do we need to do to prepare this spell and to get him to walk into it," I ask. "That's going to be the tricky part. You'll have to somehow get him down here without him running off," says Isis. "That'll be fun," I say. "Yes and we'll have to have five people who'll represent the five elements that ground light magic. Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit," says Isis. "Ok, I'm sure I can find five people who'll do that," I say. "It's much trickier. They have to be accepted by the element itself," says Ishizu.

"So each person will have to be tested. How will I know before hand if they may be compatible," I ask. "You'll have to look at their personality and which element would represent them best," says Isis. "I'll look at each of my friends and bring them in," I say. "Alright the next thing we'd need is your blood and your ceremonial knife. This spell only works if it's the exact knife and your blood," says Ishizu and I nod. "That'll be simple to give you," I say. "We'll explain the rest as we get closer. Take a day and observe your friends. Since you're magically inclined, you may be able to see the element swirling around them," says Isis.

"Ok I'll do that today. We need to keep this quiet. I do not want this getting up to him and then he escapes before I can do anything," I say. "Yes this is going to rely heavily on keeping this quiet which means no discussing this outside this room. It's spelled so he can't hear what we are saying," says Isis. "Will I have to bring them here to test them too," I ask. Isis nods. "Oh and there's one other piece of this spell. It doesn't go without sacrifice," says Isis. "What do I have to do," I ask.

Joey's POV (Nyeh!)

Atem's been very down lately. I can understand why the guy has been having a hard time. Heck if I was in his shoes, I'd be doing the same thing. I can't imagine if Seto had lost who he is. Well to other people he can sometimes be heartless, but I get to see the real Seto. The man who loves me despite our past. I walk by Atem's apartment and walk inside. "Atem buddy are you here," I ask. "Nope lover boy decided to step out for a bit. You're stuck with me," says Yugi who's laying on the couch.

"Do you know where," I ask. "No nor do I care," he says. I groan and go to walk out. "However now that he's not here," I hear him say right behind me. "We can have some fun. Let's say we have some real fun here," he says and I gulp and prepare to shove him away when I feel something poke the center of my back. "I know that eventually they'll find a way to merge me back to my humanity and I don't want that so if they want their precious Joey back, they'll have to let me go," I hear him say and I'm at his mercy.
