I was with my mother and father Alexander and Elizabeth Hamilton and my siblings Angelica, Alexander, James, John, William, and Elizabeth at a ball when I met you, Theodosia. I was young, about seventeen. I was exploring the ballroom, and then I saw you. You were with your father Aaron Burr, whom which I've heard of before. My father would sometimes quietly talk about Mr. Burr while I overheard him. You were wearing a beautiful sea-green dress. Your dark brown hair was curly and tied up in a bun. Your chocolatey skin was glowing in the candlelight. I couldn't believe there could actually be a woman that beautiful. I immediately went to Ma. "Ma, there's a girl over there I want to talk to," I whispered to her while pointing at you. "Oh! Burr's girl? Theodosia? Well yes, she is quite nice," Ma said. "Ma!" I said, my whole freckled face red. Ma giggled. "She is very intelligent and beautiful," Ma said "Why don't you be a gentleman and ask her for a dance?" I did want to do that, but I was too nervous and embarrassed to do that. My sister Angelica walked in the conversation. She was fifteen at the time. "What's going on?" Angelica asked Ma. "Philip has a little crush," Ma chuckled. My face turned even more red. "Ooh! On who?" Angelica said while smirking and looking in my eyes. "Her name is Theodosia Burr. She's Mr. Burr's daughter." Ma said to Angelica. "You need some advice?" Angelica offered. I nodded, my face red as a tomato. "You're pretty handsome, and pretty good to hang out with. You're kind, fun, honest, gentle, so that's good," Angelica said with her arm around my shoulder. "Now you just have be all those in one go," She said. "Theodosia is Burr's only child, so he is very overprotective. You have to make the best impression to win her," Ma said. I looked back at you. I took a deep breath, and started walking towards you. Ma and Angelica were silently cheering me. I arrived to you, and bowed. "Most finest of ladies, may you care to have a dance with me?" I asked you the most gentle-manliest way I could. Your father looked at me suspiciously. "I would be honored, fine sir," You said doing a curtsy. You looked at your father and he nodded. I took you by the hand. "My name is Philip Hamilton. It is such an honor having such a beautiful lady like you dancing with me," I said while walking to the dancing floor. "Theodosia Burr. Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Hamilton," You said. "Please, call me Philip. My fellow friends call me by the name of Philip, and I too, would like you to be a friend of mine." I said, and knelt to kiss your hand. You smiled. "Well, Philip, you may call me by the name of Theodosia, for my friends call me by the name of that, and I would love for you to be a friend," You said. I felt as if we were slowly growing fond of each other. "Dear Theodosia, the music is starting." I said to her. "Of course Philip," She said. We started dancing. I was dying inside but was keeping a warm smile on the outside. I put my hand around her waist and the other hand holding hers. She put her hand on my shoulder. We started twirling around the room. I saw Ma dancing with Pops and she was putting a excited, happy smile. I loved it when Ma was happy. I was happy when she was happy. I felt I was more alive then dead inside now. Ma was happy, I was dancing with Theodosia, and I felt good. The song was coming to an end so I decided to end it with a bang. I grabbed Theodosia by the waist with both hands on each side and twirled her around. She looked like an angel. The candlelight in the background was surrounding her while I was holding her up, and she looked like she was flying. The song ended, and I gently put her down. She looked stunned. She smiled, grabbed my wrist, and lead me to the balcony, where it was just her and I. "Philip, you're a pretty nice guy," You said looking at the glimmering moon. "You're not bad yourself, Theodosia." I said, not knowing what to say. She smiled at me. "I do admit, I had a bit of a blush when I saw you," I said. "Really?" Theodosia said with a smirk. I nodded. "Philip, I'm not married, which means men are trying to get to me. Of course I get to also choose my husband, but I want someone who truly loves me. I don't want to marry a man who just saw me somewhere and decided to propose. Philip, I do like you. And I know you like me. But my father and your father are enemies. He will never let me marry you, his enemy's son," Theodosia said. I put my hand on her shoulder. "Maybe we can change that," I said "We just met tonight. We're still young. Maybe if we just spent more time together, we can work our way up to marriage. I promise it will happen someday, Theodosia." You put your hand on my cheek, and gave me a kiss on it. You're red lipstick stained on my cheek, but you couldn't see it for my face was red as the shade. You laughed. There was something about your laugh that I absolutely loved. It was soft, but it shows that you're happy. "Let's go have some fun!" You said, and pulled be out of the balcony. You threw your heels off and told the band to put a more happy song. The joyful music started playing and you took my arm, crossed it with yours, and we started going in circles. "Haha! Isn't this fun?" You asked me. I happily nodded. You then took my hand and held it with yours and we spun around in circles. The music eventually stopped and we went to take a break. "I'm going to get us some water," You said and then walked off. "Philip!" I heard Angelica shout. She arrived to me, but it wasn't just her. It was her, Ma, Pops, thirteen year old Alexander, eleven year old James, seven year old John, two year old William, and baby Elizabeth. So, basically my whole family. "So...you have a girlfriend now?" James teased. "How'd it go?" Angelica asked. "What's her name?" John asked. "Phwilip!" William said. "Burr's girl, eh?" Pops said. "You did great!" Ma said. All I did was a nervous smile. I looked back at Theodosia. Her father was quietly talking to her. Pops looked at me. "I don't know about her, son," He said. "Pops! But why?" I asked him. "Just because, her father," Pops said. "You can't judge people by who their father is, Pops," I said. "I know, I know. But...me and Burr...I couldn't imagine him and I being family." Pops said uncomfortably. "If me and Theodosia marry, you and Burr don't have to anything different. Your children are simply married, that's all," I said. "Oh, Alexander, lighten up. Philip's in love with a fine young lady, why shant you support your son?" Ma said. "Ma's right, Pa," Angelica said. Even my little brothers were joining in. "Let Philip live life," Alexander said. "He's in love! You were in love with Mama, weren't you, Papa?" James said. "Support Philip!" John said. "Wove is in de airw!" William said (He meant "Love in is the air). Pops looked at everyone and gave a sad smile. Baby Elizabeth started to wake from her nap. "Oh, fine," Pops said. Everyone cheered. I saw Theodosia walk towards me. She looked saddened. "Philip, my father does not approve of you," She said. I was in mere shock. "Why?" I asked her. My family was glaring. "Oh! My apologies, I was being ever so rude, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton," Theodosia said. "Do not distress, Ms. Burr, it is but our blame to not greet you," Ma said. Ma and Angelica did a little curtsey, and Pops and my brothers did a bow. "It is a pleasure to have you in our presence." Ma said. "As so it is for you," Theodosia said. "Ms. Burr, I hear from my dear brother that he finds you quite enjoyable," Angelica said. I wanted to shut her mouth right then and there, but I knew I couldn't. "Oh! Is that so?" Theodosia asked with a smirk. "Oh, um, yes, actually. You dance ever so graceful and elegantly, most finest of ladies," I said. "Thank you, Philip. You are quite the handsome one yourself," Theodosia said. "He does look like his father," Pops said. Everyone laughed. "Ms. Burr?" William asked. "Oh, yes?" Theodosia asked as she knelt down to face him. "I think you pretty," He said. Everyone gave out a little giggle. "Oh, why thank you so much," She said. Theodosia moved her eyes upward and saw baby Elizabeth in Ma's arms. She stood back up. "Oh why, hello! Who is this little precious one?" Theodosia asked as she fiddled her fingers above Elizabeth's tiny body. "That my baby sister, Ewizabeth." William said. "She is such a blessing. May I hold her?" Theodosia asked. "Of course." Ma said as she gradually handed Elizabeth to Theodosia. By the way she was gently rocking her, I could tell she would be an amazing mother. "Thank you for letting me hold your angel," Theodosia said as she carefully handed baby Elizabeth back to Ma. "Anytime," Ma said happily. "I regret to say I must return to my father, but thank you so much for your precious time and wonderful company," Theodosia said. "As so it is for you," Ma said. Theodosia walked gracefully to her father. "Oh, Philip, she's absolutely wonderful!" Ma said. "I know!" I said excitedly. "She wouldn't be too bad as a sister," Angelica said. All my little brothers nodded. "Now, now. Let's not talk about marriage, Philip just met Ms. Burr tonight." Pops said. "Soon to be Mrs. Hamilton!" Angelica said. Everyone laughed but Pops, who just awkwardly smiled. "Oh, Alexander. Where's your laughter?" Ma said to Pops. "Betsey, it's just..." Pops said. "Now don't you talk about Mr. Burr," Ma said. "Why can't you just support Philip?" Angelica asked, sassy. "I'm sure Burr feels the exact same way," Pops said. Pops then turned his head, and saw Mr. Burr and Theodosia walking towards us. "Good evening, Hamilton family." Mr. Burr said. "Mr. Burr. It's an honor, how are you this fine night?" Ma said. "I am doing quite well, thank you Mrs. Hamilton," Mr. Burr said. Ma nodded. "Well, my daughter seems to be telling me how she finds your presence quite enjoyable, especially your son's," Mr. Burr said. "Oh, of course! She is quite delightful to be with as well," Ma said. "I find that very admirable, and Mrs. Hamilton, please forgive me for my ignorance, but I would appreciate to privately talk to your husband," Mr. Burr said. "Why, of course," Ma said. Pops and Mr. Burr walked towards the balcony. I signaled Theodosia to follow me. She nodded. We both walked quietly to the outside of the balcony and overheard by leaning over to the wall next to the entrance. "I am not going to let your son do anything to do with my daughter!" Mr. Burr said. "My son is too great to be with your daughter!" Pops said. "Did you just insult my daughter?" Mr. Burr said. "I might have. What are you going to do? Wait to death?" Pops said. "How dare you!" Mr. Burr said. "You know you've never done anything politically important, so what's your point in life? You might as well die along with your pathetic wife!" Pops said. Pops realised what he had said. I looked at Theodosia. She had tears in her eyes. "I-I'm...I'm really sorry...about your mom..." I said. "Sh-she died when I was young..." Theodosia sniffed. I hugged her. I then looked at Pops. I was now standing in the entrance of the balcony. "Pops!" I shouted angrily. "Philip, what are you doing here?" Pops asked. "I'm here to defend Theodosia! You can't insult people like that!" I yelled. Mr. Burr looked shocked. "Philip, you're not supposed to be here!" Pops said. "Pops, I cannot let you insult a person like that. I find that very unmannerly that you did that. You don't how much Mr. Burr and Theodosia have been through because of Mrs. Burr's death," I said. I looked at Mr. Burr. "I am very sorry for your loss, Mr. Burr." He looked a bit saddened. I looked back at Pops and shook my head. "Can't allow that, I'm sorry but, Pops even though you and Mr. Burr don't have the best relationship, you still can't insult him like that. That's taking it too far," I said. Pops looked a bit ashamed. I had never, once in my life, had yelled at him. I had always supported him. Even I felt ashamed. Mr. Burr walked out the balcony and passed me. He had whispered, "Thank you. I'm thinking a bit more about you." I saw walk to his crying daughter and hugged her. "I'm really sorry, Pops." I said, ashamed. There was a long pause. "It's fine, Philip," He turned around to face me. "You're just becoming a man. I did that a lot when I was younger." I smiled, knowing that I was forgiven for my actions. "Thanks a lot, Pops." I said. "Now, go be with that Theodosia." He said smiling. I was now really happy. Both Pops and Mr. Burr now trusted me with Theodosia. Theodosia had now calmed down from her tears. "He trusts me! Your father trusts me! So does my father!" I shouted happily. "My father feels the same way!" Theodosia said joyfully. We both hugged each other. Theodosia blushed a lot, and then kissed me on the lips. I had shared my first kiss with her. Me and Theodosia had spent the rest of the night together
