The day after Jimin's encounter with Yoongi, Jimin couldn't take his eyes off of the boy for even a split second. Jimin constantly followed Yoongi around like a moth drawn to a flame. Jimin knew the older boy wouldn't speak to him without a good reason; no one ever would. Everyone avoided him at all costs, so having someone to speak to him without being told to was a miracle to him.
Jimin watched Yoongi so intensely that Jimin started to stop paying attention in class. All he thought about was wanting to be the older's friend and wanting to talk to him and be around him. Jimin, of course, deep in the back of his mind, knew it would never happen, but he continued to remain hopeful and positive.
Two weeks had passed by, and every day as everyone left to go home, Jimin would run up to Yoongi and walk home with him. Yoongi happened to live just a few blocks away from Jimin, so Jimin could walk with Yoongi for pretty much the entire way back home. Yoongi always listened to music as he walked, and never said a word to Jimin. Though, just being able to walk with Yoongi was enough for Jimin, for now. It wasn't until one day that Yoongi finally broke.
"Would you just leave me alone, dude?" The older yelled to the younger, turning around to look Jimin in the eyes. Jimin looked down at his feet, his head hung low. His eyes began to well up, but he took a deep breath to calm himself down. Of course this would happen, he should've seen it coming.
"You're the only one who doesn't completely avoid me." Jimin replied in a small, soft voice as he frowned behind his mask.
"I never say anything to you, and I ignore every word that comes out of your mouth. Tell me, what's the difference?" Yoongi snapped back, startling the younger boy. Jimin took a few steps back, slightly worried that Yoongi would hurt him.
"I.. just..." Jimin started, trying to find a way to reply. "Just you being around m-me is enough to make me h-happy.." He said finally, slightly stuttering.
Yoongi's eyes widened slightly and his expression softened.
"I.." Yoongi glanced around in search of something to say. "I don't need a little pest bugging me and following me around everywhere! You're like a fucking child, just leave me alone and find someone else to bother."
Jimin noticed the hesitation in the older's voice. He continued to stand in front of Yoongi, not knowing what to say as he stared at the boy.
"Well? What are you gonna do? Cry? Run away?" Yoongi asked teasingly. He walked closer to Jimin, extending his arm until his hand was touching Jimin's chin. Jimin shuddered slightly as Yoongi lifted Jimin's face so that Jimin was looking straight into Yoongi's eyes. They held each other's gaze for a moment before Yoongi laughed and pushed Jimin away, causing the boy to fall down.
"You're so pathetic, hiding behind that mask of yours. What's behind it anyways? Hiding a scar? A birthmark? Something you can't bear to live with?" The older said with a chuckle. He gave Jimin a kick in the side, followed by the words, "Go find someone else to bother", before walking off.
Jimin watched as Yoongi walked off into the distance, slowly disappearing from sight. He finally got up and dusted off his jeans and his backpack, swinging the bag over the shoulder it used to rest before he was pushed to the hard cement beneath him.
Jimin started walking back home now that Yoongi was out of sight. Jimin took this time to think things through. Did he really want to be friends with Yoongi? Was Yoongi the guy Jimin thought he was? Is his effort really worth being treated like this? These were things Jimin really needed to think over before he attempted to approach Yoongi again. He really didn't want to get bullied again..
After ten minutes, Jimin finally arrived at his home. He decided what he was going to do now after the walk home. As he walked up to the front door of his apartment building, he took off his mask and began punching in the numbers to unlock the door. Jimin walked into the elevator, pressing the button labeled "5", and stashed his mask into his backpack, shoving it between his folders, making sure that no one could see it if they opened his bag. Once the elevator arrived at the 5th floor, he walked to the left side of the building, approaching a door labeled "501". He put in the passcode to the digital lock on the side of the door, and the door made a little tune before unlocking, allowing Jimin to walk into his home. His mom heard him come in and immediately ran to the door, greeting Jimin with a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"How was school, cutie?" His mom asked in a sweet voice.
Jimin gave a soft smile before he ran his fingers through his hair.
"School was fine as usual!" He replied calmly. "In fact.. I think I actually made a friend." Jimin continued, his smile growing even bigger.
His mom's eyes widened in shock.
"W-well, that's amazing, honey! I'm so so proud of you!" She exclaimed as she pulled the boy into another hug. "This calls for a celebration, what do you think?" She asked Jimin.
"Mom.. you don't have to do that." Jimin said as he shook his head, giggling slightly.
"No, no! I insist! Let's have ice cream for dinner, what do you think about that?"
Jimin groaned before replying with, "Mom, you know I can't say no to ice cream.."
"In celebration of your new friend, let's eat ice cream for dinner! I'll go tell your dad. Oh, by the way, what's his name?"
"Yoongi. His name is Min Yoongi." Jimin replied as he fidgeted with the hem of his jacket sleeve, a huge grin plastered to his face.
