"November 4th? But last time I checked it was October." I said with confusion in my voice.
I heard my dad sigh. "When we had the crime scene early in the morning, the guy that hit one of Miami Metro Homicide's workers cars, he must have did something to you because you were in a coma for three weeks."
When my dad said this, I stared at him with big eyes.
He chuckled a little before continuing on. "Right when you arrived off the ambulance and was rolled into the E.R., everyone from homicide came rushing in. The ones who stayed for a while in the waiting room was Angel Batista, Masuka, Joey Quinn and Debra Morgan."
I smiled to myself knowing people actually stayed.
"Dexter Morgan was here the longest."
"D-dexter was here?"
"Yes, he just left a couple of minutes ago to go get Harrison. The only reason Dexter left was to go get food, or to go get Harrison. He had Jamie watch him for the first week and a half, but she wanted to go out. When Dexter came back, Harrison kept asking if you were okay and I told him you were very tired. When he came one time, he brought his coloring books and action figures and crawled into your bed at night and slept with you. I don't think that he hurt you, in terms of your ribs and arm so we just let him sleep. When we woke up, he was curled with you."
I smile at the thought of Harrison curling up next to me. His little smile and his blonde hair, just like Rita. His real mother.
"Hailie!!" I hear his little voice burst through the hospital room door.
"Harrison!" I say smiling.
"I thought you weren't gunna wake up!"
"Of course I was gunna wake up! I'm like The Wolverine, I will never die! HA HA HA HA!" I said curling up my lip and growling like a tiger.
"Lemme see your claws!" Harrison said while holding my hand.
"Another day. I'm tired. Here, come in bed with me." I say and pat the bed next to me. "I'll turn the tv on."
As Harrison climbed into my very very uncomfortable hospital bed, I saw a man walk though the door.
Dexter Morgan.
"Hailie! You're alright!" Dexter said as he walked in.
"Y-yes. Just a bit sore." I say with a chuckle and turn the tv on for Harrison.
These tv's in the hospitals never have good channels. They're always old people shows. For like 80 year olds. Oh look, a child show for Harrison. Dora the Explorer. What I wonder about this show, is that this little girl could be crossing the damn border if she wanted to. Her parents don't give a rat's ass on what she does. She climbs mountains, she goes through deep forests and goes through alligator infested water. And with what, a Mexican speaking monkey? For all she knows, someone could become obsessed with her and start stalking her and one day, while she's talking to mr map over there, a random dude could just capture her. Who's there to stop him? A monkey with red boots? I don't think so.
I looked over to my dad and saw him have his face in his hands and he was drifting off. I knew Dexter saw him too.
"Hey Dave, why don't you go home and sleep? You'll have the whole house to yourself and I won't be leaving here for a while." he said, pointing to Harrison very interested in his show.
My dad knew he was not going to win this fight, so he got up, gave me a quick kiss on the forehead and thanked Dexter.
I looked over to Dexter, and his eyes were focused on the ground. He wasn't staring at the ground, but a bag that I hadn't noticed before.
I knew exactly what it was.
"Doughnut?" Dexter asked and held the bag towards me.
"No, I'm okay." I said with a slight smile.
"Oh c'mon, Hailie. The food here sucks and you're not going to be able to leave for a while. Just take a doughnut."
"I want a doughnut!" Harrison said keeping his eyes glued to the tv.
"Harrison, you wait until Hailie picks one. Remember you picked out like three different kinds?"
I chuckled and took a doughnut blindly. I looked at it and it was my favorite, a regular circular donut with strawberry frosting and sprinkles.
"Aw man! I wanted that one!" Harrison said and took out a long john with chocolate frosting on it.
As I took a bite of my donut, Dexter startled me with saying something.
"Hailie, you are in danger. We need to talk."
