"Hailie! Get up!" I hear my dad yell from downstairs.
I groan in response to show that I'm up, and I roll over carefully. I few a faint 'mew' from my cat, and I see her at the edge of my bed.
" Come here, Jaz." I call to her.
Jaz was a black kitten with white paws and white in the chest area and the tip of her tail. Her tail went straight up, and walked her pretty little self to me, and set herself on my chest. I pet her for a couple minutes and heard my dad call me again, so I pushed her off of me and got up. I groaned and held onto items around the room to keep me stable, walked out of my room, and down the stairs.
When I got down, I walked into our kitchen to see Dexter and Harrison sitting at the table. Harrison had a couple of his toy trucks, and a coloring book. Dexter had been talking with my dad. After a little while, I walked towards the table and saw that Harrison had dropped a stuffed animal, so i picked it up.
"Here, Harrison. You dropped your little bunny." I said and handed it to him.
"Hey! You don't hop away from me!" He said and hugged the animal and went back to coloring and playing.
I looked to Dexter and my father, and they looked up, almost in sync. I shifted on my feet and immediately regretted it. I felt a pain shoot through my back and scrunched up my face. Dexter shot up and walked a bit faster than normal to me and helped me to a chair at the table.
"Thank you." I said shyly, and he replied back with a smile and a nod.
Dexter and my dad went back to talking, and I looked around. I took the chance to look at Dexter. I never really had a chance to notice his facial features, other than he had eyes, a nose, ears and a mouth. In my past, I've taken in a few tips on taking in features of a person without them noticing, so I did the same to Dexter. I could tell from when he was talking, that his teeth were perfect. He had green eyes, not the kind that popped out, but a subtle green.
"Hailie!! Draw with me! " Harrison's voice draws my attention away from Dexter.
"Okay, Harrison. " I said and picked up a crayon and started to draw with him.

"Harrison I think it's time for you to go lay down." Dexter said to Harrison as we lay on the grass.
"Awe Dad! I wanna lay out here with Hailie and you and—"
"Harrison, now." he said in a more stern voice.
"Here Harrison, you can lay down in my bed." I say, getting up carefully and Dexter was soon at my side to help me.
"I can take him upstairs, Hailie." I hear my dad say, coming up to us.
I nod and Dexter helped me hobble to a table and I sat down.
"So, Hailie. I saw that you were looking at me earlier"
I felt my face burn up immediately, and I looked away from him in embarrassment.
"I-i.." I said, stuttering.
"It's okay. But we need to talk some things over." Dexter said and placed his hands on the table.
"Alright."
"We need to get those tests done, to see if you, you know, use more of your brain than others. If the tests come back positive, we will need to put you under some type of supervision." he said.
"What! Are you serious, Dexter? For the past, oh I don't know, ten years of my life, I've been perfectly fine without anyone watching over my ass or following me! Now's not the time for anyone to be up my ass!"
"Hailie, it's for your own good. Your father doesn't want you to get hurt, and neither do I." he said calmly.
What I couldn't understand was how could he say that so calmly. It seemed as if he had no emotions in his life. Even with Harrison, he acted like he was a zombie. I couldn't wrap my finger around the fact that his mother died in front of him at such a young age, and he was still sane. I knew he had taken up working in the law enforcement, but why be a blood spatter specialist? Why wouldn't he just be a regular detective, like his sister?
Dexter's voice brought my attention out of my thoughts back to him. "Hailie?"
"Yeah, sorry.." I said and chuckled nervously
"So what do you think? Will you?" he said and placed his hands on the table.
"Yeah, I'll go." I said and Dexter smiled.
