Hey guys, we're here! The final chapter. Thank you to everyone who has taken to time to read this. This is the first story I have completed and so this is a proud moment for me. In this chapter we're gonna have some scenes without Wren in them, which is different, but I think it will flesh out the story better. Enjoy!
Gotham Police Department, before Wren arrives.
Jim Gordon sits in his office, at his desk, staring at his hands. "You sure about this Jim?" Harvey Bullock asks, looking uneasily at his friend. He has the utmost faith in, and respect for his friend; but this is one of the craziest plans he has ever heard. "I don't know Harvey," Jim sounds like he hasn't slept in days, "Wren isn't stupid. She's one of the brightest kids I've met, and she's always been mature for her age. She's got good instincts, if any 18 year old is less likely to be fooled, I haven't met them. But this whole thing... I mean Jerome...The guy just seems to be straight up evil. But Wren is uninjured, mentally sound... There's evidence. But I'm really struggling to believe there's more to Jerome than what we've seen."
Harvey puzzles over this for a few minutes, before taking a seat opposite Jim. "It all comes down to one thing: what do your instincts tell you?"
"To trust Wren," Jim answers immediately, "as much as I have to fight logic to do it. If it were anyone else in my family, any other eighteen year old, I would dismiss everything. Arrest him, throw away the key. But Wren knows people, she actually suggested a few leads on cases I wrapped up before she was kidnapped. She's resourceful, you'd have to be to survive two months with all those psychopaths. She'd make a damn good cop actually. Harvey... I think we should go with her plan..."
"Well that's settled then. Let's start getting through the paperwork," Harvey answers.
"There's something I have to do first," Jim states. The waiting cell, Gotham Police Station.
"Jerome," Jim greets him. "Jim," he greets back equally serious and subdued. It's evident to everyone at the police station that something has happened to the boy. Before he would heckle them or laugh manically. He was always joking and always got under your skin. He has been unusually quiet and reserved since he was brought in. Since he was dragged from Wren's side and fought to get back to her, he hasn't been violent either.
"How is she?" Jerome looks through the bars desperately at Jim. Nobody has informed him about anything of her since he got in and he has refused to eat these past two days due to worry. "She's almost fully healed. Her arm has its full range of movement. Besides some dull pain, she's back to her normal self." Jerome sags against the stone bench in relief. And then immediately snaps his head up at the next sentence. "She's coming to see you."
Jim so far is pleased with how to conversation is going. He knows when Jerome is acting, has picked it up before, and he is not acting now. Jerome genuinely seems to care for his cousin.
"Jerome, I need you to listen very carefully to what I am about to say. Wren has an idea and she's going to run it by you. But we're all certain you're going to agree. Now, I'll let her break it down for you. But I will say this. You have been good to Wren so far. But if ever, one day, you decide to hurt her. Hurt anyone actually. I will hunt you down and I will kill you. As far as you're concerned, the law doesn't apply anymore. You're getting one chance, so you better not blow it." Jim turns to leave but hears Jerome vow, "I would never hurt Wren." And it's true, Jerome doesn't think he's capable of it. Wren is like some magical being to him, the only person to ever show him any kindness. To treat him like a person. As far as Jerome is concerned she is the most important person in the world. He doesn't know what Wren is going to tell him, but he is eager to hear it. He waits.Wren's Point Of View
We park alongside the police station. I'm going to talk to Jerome and my parents will wait with Jim. As we walk in everyone turns to look at me. It's uncomfortable. They continue to stare as Jim meets us and as I'm led to the holding cells. Mom and Dad look anxious to let me go see Jerome by myself. Even though he looked after me for two months and saved me multiple times. A sigh escapes my throat, this is so frustrating. But I suppose they are handling the whole thing really well considering who Jerome is and what they've been through. I make a mental note not to be tough on them.
