Espio paced back and forth deep in thought. They've done this before but would it be the same? They had no one who could truly speak to the emeralds to possibly ask them for the same miracle twice. Miracle the word stuck with him but why? Something about it made it stay, and for some reason brought him on board another train of thought. Yes it was a nick name for the blue hedgehog, and was most used during one time of the year, Christmas. The word led on to another thought and he stopped pacing grasping the idea. Christmas and miracles, Sonic's birth place… Christmas Island. Big miracles always have a habit of reoccurring that same day every year.
But was his mind just making up a false hope just to make everyone feel better? Would this suddenly wild idea actually work? He had no idea. But there was only one way to find out.
"Big miracles have a habit of making an appearance on one day of the year…" Espio spoke turning back to the melancholy crowd. Everyone looked up confused, but Tails caught on quickly.
"Christmas!" Tails cheered, "They happen at Christmas! It was always Sonic's favorite time of year."
"So what? We wait around till Christmas and ask Santa if he can bring Sonic back to life???" Storm asked. A silly question but sounded dead serious about it.
Silver made a face of annoyance at Storm but excused it quickly knowing he wasn't very brainy. "That's not what your suggesting Espio, are you?" He asked.
"Even still we're all the way in April!" Shadow growled.
"No that's not what I'm getting at." Espio shook his head and sighed, "Look, I don't even know if I'm making sense myself. It was just a thought… I don't even know if it'll work!"
"What is it?" Silver asked.
"Well, if that one day brings such wonders, imagine the whole Island. I mean, just look what it produced." Espio pointed to Sonic, "What if we took him back to his birth place. And let whatever goes on there take effect, maybe it could bring him back."
Shadow never looked so disappointed. Espio frowned bowing his head in a little shame, "I'm sorry… I just wanted everyone to have hope in something."
But Tails found the idea great. He ran over to Espio, "I think you're on to something. You know anything could happen! Anything literally! Come on Shadow you have to give it a try! You have to believe that things will get better!"
Shadow looked up, in a dajavoo he's heard those words before, and last time he yelled at them, but maybe somewhere in all his darkness believed it could get better. And now when his little candle light of hope flickered out, there was again those words to ignite the flame even still so small.
"I have a ship that can get us there! It'll be a long trip but I'm sure we can make it!" Tails already started making a list.
Silver frowned walking by Espio's side, "You really believe that's going to work? I mean not for nothing but it sounds a bit… well um stupid."
Tails over herd the comment and turned back with a small fire in his eyes, "I don't see YOU coming up with any better ideas! You're supposedly from the future and yet you stay here. That's kind of stupid! Elise kissed Sonic! THAT was stupid! And gross… but Stupid none the less! Eggman is so smart and yet all his plans fail, and he acts really stupid!"
Silver stood quite as the little fox went on ranting, "And all this stupid stupidity! So if stupid is what gives us adventure, and if stupidness happens to get the best of us, this 'stupid' idea might get us somewhere!!" and he finally finished his point turning around mumbling, "Stupid…"
Storm chuckled a little pointing to Silver, "Yeah stupid."
"Shut up…" Silver rolled his eyes and pushed Storm to his tail with a lift of his hand.
Amy now calmed enough and no more tears came over to the group.
"I heard the idea, I think it could work. After all Sonic was the Islands most perfect creation. It wouldn't let him go that easily…" She wrapped her arms around Espio and gave him a kiss on the cheek, "Good thinking Espio.
"I uh… thanks." Espio awkwardly hugged her back. But he had a pit full of doubts in his own words. He was starting to regret he said anything.
