Diana held hands with Anne as they walked to the schoolhouse, and felt that if anyone judges them, they were the wrong ones. Anne had a smile on her face, feeling happy to be with Diana.
They walked into the schoolhouse and everyone looked to them, still holding hands. They weren't very surprised, but Anne felt soon they would be.
They sat down and learned whatever there was to learn, and then went to lunch. They sat in the circle with the other girls, and kept looking at each other.
"Are you guys keeping a secret?" Ruby asked.
"We are." Diana answered.
"Oh, please tell us!" Ruby was dying to know what secret that was kept between them.
"Okay...but don't tell anyone. We're in love." Diana saw everyone's expressions change dramatically.
"That's..." Before Josie could finish the statement that was obviously intended to be rude, Anne and Diana got up and left.
Ruby, Jane, and Tillie all followed however. They didn't know what to think of the love, but they still liked their friends.
"Diana, Anne, we accept you!" Ruby shouted.
"Accept what?"
