Saving her one hour progress Mahira let out a beautiful satisfactory sigh and pushed away from her laptop.

Finally some time to catch up with some reading. She plucked her book out from the pile of scattered notes and picked up from where she left off about the beautiful 'mother of believers', Khadija bint Khuwaylid May Allah be pleased with her, Muhammad (may peace and blessings be upon)'s first wife. There was something so attractive and alluring about this women. Mahira found herself wanting to know every single aspect of this woman's life and what it is that got her to such a honourable status that Allah the Al- Mighty himself sent angel Jibreel down to give her Salaam.

Mahira was so engrossed in Khadija (May Allah be pleased with her) that she had not noticed her phone flashing on her bed up until now. She had placed it on silent mode so she could avoid the temptation of checking messages now and then as they would come from her friends group chat during writing up her assignments.

Placing her marker down, Mahira picked up her phone and smiled at her caller.

"Assalaamu Alaykum Areeba." Areeba was one of Mahiras closest friends from school. Out of the four friends, Mahira got on with Areeba the most since Areeba made the most effort to always call.

"Wa Alaykum assalaam. Why did you take so long? Where have you been? Have you not checked the messages on whatsapp?" Came the rapid set of questions like a fiery set of arrows.

"No why?"

"Oh my god. Oh my God. Ema is getting married girl!" And then Areeba squeals and drops silent that Mahira worries her friend has fainted out of overwhelming excitement.

"Don't lie!" Mahira says straightening her back. "Ema getting married? Since when? She was always complaining about boys."

"Why would I lie? Check the group chat."

"Okay hang on." Mahira opened whatsapp and scrolled right to the beginning of the conversation, and sure enough, Mahira witnessed with her own eyes as they widened at Ema's message.

Guess what guys? I'm getting married!!! Alhamdulillah!!

Mahira wasted no time and hurriedly typed in a congratulations and a bunch of emojis. Not a second later, Emas reply followed thanking her.

"See. I told you!" Areeba shouts through the phone. "This is so exciting. What are we going to wear?!" Areeba squeals.

Mahira felt the corners of her mouth tug and then realised she was probably the last of the squad to know the full details.

"Okay hold up, hold up." Mahira shook her head trying to get things straight first. "When? How? And to who?"

"She said it all started a few months back when his family came over. Everything went well after that and she agreed. She mentioned his name but I can't remember. He attended the same school as us. It was something like...um..umm" Areeba trailed off racking her brain. "She said he was a friend of your brothers. I can't remember his name."

"Saifs friend? Really?"

"Yeah."

"Then we must know him for sure."

"Most probably you will. It's something beginning with R-Yes mum?....Coming!"

"Ooo someone with an R. There was so many is our school beginning with R." Mahira nestled around her cushions thinking long and hard racking her brain, in Saifs class there was only 2 she could think of. Ridwan. Rubel.

"I have to go. We'll talk some more later." Came Areeba's distracted voice through the phone.

"Sure. AssalaamuAlaykum."

Mahira found herself smiling and was genuinely happy for her friend. It was hard to believe after many years of speaking about it that Ema was the first from them to be getting married. They all had predicted Areeba to be the first since she was the most forward reguarding the topic.

Mahira scrolled through the messages, her thoughts lingering around the possible boy that could soon be marrying her best friend. Saif had many friends and Mahira was not aware of all but she definitely knew a few of them.

Mahiras thoughts wondered and then finally settled on Raheem.

Her forehead creased with sudden thought.

She blinked at the possibility and then eventually after some thought shook her head.

"No. It can't be." She smiled.

She picked up her dearest companion and opened up the page but before she could get through a single paragraph, there was a knock on her door and then Saif walks in.

"Where's mum?"

Mahira set her book on her lap with a loud sigh but Saif took no heed, disturbing Mahiras time as he bent down and began searching under her bed.

"Why?"

"I can't find something."

"What are you doing?" Mahira could hear the destruction happening under her bed. Those were all her special occasion shoes she had placed in neat lines after vacuuming and clearing her room only yesterday.

"I need to find something." He repeats

Mahira waited for a better answer but Saif did not provide her with one as he was too busy destroying her efforts of the day before.

"I can't help you if you don't tell me. Go and ask mum." Mahira dismissed him shifting so she could face away from him to read some more about her new role model.

"She's not home." He repeats and then finally stands placing his hands on both sides, his eyes wondering Mahiras room.

"Don't even think about." Mahira jumps up, eyes narrowing, ready to defend if she had to.

"It's not here."Saif finally mutters and begins to head out leaving Mahira to herself. She shook her head at the person that was suppose to be her older brother and then she remembered the myterious Mr R.

"Wait, Saif?" Mahira calls out halting Saif.

Since Saif was here she may as well tell him about his friends engagement. Perhaps he already knew.

"Did you know my friend is getting married to your friend?"

"No. Who?"

"Ema."

"Whose that?"

"My friend."

When it came to Saif the only things he remembered in life were how to play video games.

"Good for her. Ridhwan is a really good guy. She's a lucky girl." He says a little distracted.

"Yeah she is." Mahira smiles.

So Ridhwan was his name?

Saif muttered something again and then left.

Mahira places a hand on her beating heart and lets herself fall back on her bed as soon as the door closes behind.

Her heart had been beating unusually fast for some reason and she had no idea why.

..............

Sorry for the wait. I was having second thoughts about the whole story in general. I hope it did not disappoint though.
