Sadia lowered the salad from the top shelf of the fridge. She had decided last second she wanted to make some sandwiches with the left over salad from last night. She just about brought it down when she felt a hand snake around her waist. Squealing quietly, so as not to alert her brother in the next room, she set down the bowl of salad and turned to face her husband Idris who was grinning down at her.
"Idris! I almost dropped the salad." She tried to pry his hands off but instead he ignored her pulling her in.
"I missed you." He murmers into her hair.
Sadia looked both ways before giving into his embrace. She placed both hands on his shoulder before reaching up on tip toes and managing to just about reach his jaw.
"We literally saw each this morning." She laughs ruffling his afro and then a cough from behind the fridge door sends both Idris and Sadia repelling like two magnets.
Although Sadia was well hidden behind the fridges door, she knew it was her bother Saif that had walked in.
"Bro I'm heading out now. Can you cut the lovey dovey crap for later?" Saif looks to his brother in-law one last time before slinging a bag over his shoulder and leaving in football gear with a shake of the head, persuading himself that it was not what he saw.
Sadia found her face turning beetroot red and turned to her husband to find him completely unfazed. He simply grinned before leaning over to give her one more kiss and then left after Saif to the park where the boys were gathering for a football match.
Meanwhile upstair, Mahira struggled to fix a clean nappy on a fidgety Noah who would not stay still. He kept rolling over and it took several attempts to finally secure the nappy and button his baby vest correctly.
"All done and ready to go." Mahira threw Noah in the air feeling a sense of accomplishment. She entered the kitchen to find her sister wrapping some sandwiches in cling film and packing them into bags.
"Mmm what's in those?"
"Salad. Grab some drinks from the fridge will you?" Sadia orders taking her baby and placing him into the baby carrier.
Once Noah was tucked in, he enjoyed swishing his legs as he was given a toy to chew on to help him with his teething.
"What time is your friend coming?"
"Ema said she'll meet us at the park."
Mahira was excited for two things. She had always liked going out with her sister and Noah, and secondly, she was about to get all the juicy gossip from her friend Ema about her upcoming engagement.
"Got it. Let's go." Mahira says taking the lead. If they had left with Saif and Idris they would have got a ride in Idris's car, but since Noah took extra time to be groomed, they were left to walk 20 minutes to the park which both sisters were fine with. At least it provided the time for both sisters to bond.
"How is teaching going?" Sadia asks
"It's my first year so I guess okay. I do enjoy it though."
"That's great. What subjects you teaching?"
"Quran tafsir and Hadith, both level 1."
"That's great. I started from the bottom too. You'll have to work your way up and you'll gain experience like that."
"Yeah. 25 little people are a lot harder to handle than I thought it would be."
They both fell into comfortable silence before Sadia glanced in Mahira's direction before speaking her mind.
