Nicolò Romano
I woke up and looked at the clock. Three thirty in the morning. I suddenly heard sniffles. I got up quietly and walked down the hall. Their door was open. I looked in to see Athena holding her mother. Aphrodite was crying. Athena looked up at me."Mommy is just sad. She said she's okay..." she said sleepily but alarmed.
"It's okay Athena I'll take care of mommy now. You go back to sleep okay? I'll bring mommy downstairs for some tea." I said gently while picking Aphrodite up.
Victoria was in the hallway with a worried expression.
"Victoria would you mind making your special chamomile tea please?" I asked.
"Of course Sr. it will be right up." She said walking briskly down the steps.
I brought her to my room and set her on my bed. I looked at her tear streaked face for a moment while rubbing her back. I've never been so kind and patient.
"Aphrodite, please tell me why you are crying." I said softly trying not to scare her. She looked at me for a moment.
"I get sad remembering all that happened three years ago." She whispered hoarsely.
"Athena seemed like she knew how to handle you in this state." I wondered aloud. She cried harder.
"I try not to wake her up. I try not to freak her out. But she always knows when I'm upset. She always holds me and let's me cry. She knows something hurts me. She's very smart." She said with a small smile. "I'm proud of my Athena."
"Here is the tea Sr. and Ms. If I am no longer needed I'll be off to bed after I check on Athena. Ring me if you need anything." Victoria said, setting the tea on a coaster placed on the nightstand.
"Of course Victoria. Thank you very much." I said.
"Thank you." Aphrodite sniffed.
"Of course dear. Feel better alright? Get some rest." Victoria said softly patting Aphrodite's back.

I entered the room to see Athena still awake."Athena darling you should be alseep." I said gently sitting down near her on the bed.
"Is mommy okay?" She asked.
"Mommy is just a little sad is all." I said.
"I know why. It's because grandma and grandpa went to heaven before I was born. Grandpa didn't want mommy to have me. He said I was made by a bad man who hurt mommy." She said.
"How do you know this?" I asked alarmed.
"I heard mommy and her friend Sara talking about it. Mommy crys when she remembers. She told me I don't have a father. Why did she lie?" She looked up at me.
"I am not sure darling. Perhaps she will explain when you're older. Come on. Off to sleep." I answered.
"Okay. " she crawled back under the covers and fell asleep.
That's no good. We have to ensure Aphrodite is happy. I have to warn Mr. Romano.
