Three months before....
"I hate Texas. I hate Texas. I HATE TEXAS." I practically yell at Raquel.
"Haha, I know what you mean babe," she laughs.
"No, no you don't," I start. "My ideal place of living is Alaska -"
"Because you're house is so cold you could keep penguins in it." She teases me.
It was true. My parents kept our house sixty five degrees, and I got so used to it that I started hating the heat of Texas.
"When are you going to tell me where you're taking me?" I whine at Raquel.
"My little Elisa," She taunts. "When are you going to learn that I don't reveal my surprises?"
I just sigh inwardly and stare out the window of her gold kia.
We had been driving around for almost an hour. I was smart enough to know we weren't in San Antonio anymore, but I had no idea where we were headed.
I lost myself in thought. I guess I became a little uneasy, and Raquel noticed.
"Hun, you okay?" She asked me gently, glancing from the road to me.
She was my best friend. She'd been my best friend since fifth grade. I had to admit our friendship was so weird to me when it started. She was the most popular girl in our class, let alone grade. Yes, even in fifth grade we had the "populars" and the "normals." Somehow, we became close friends. Then the summer before sixth grade we were inseparable. I was never as popular or half as pretty as her. Yes, I knew A LOT of people, and they knew me, but I wasn't popular. We stuck through it though. Through all the people who constantly questioned our friendship, saying that she'd eventually dump me when she figured out I was weighing her down. She always told them off, but I always had a doubt. After seven years though, I knew it wouldn't happen. We did everything together and always told each other everything. Which was why I was so confused as to why I didn't want to tell her what was keeping me down.
"El, you can tell me anything. You should know that." She said as she reached down to give my hand a gentle squeeze. "What's going on?"
She might believe me if no one else does... I thought.
"I'll tell you when we get to where we're going," I finally tell her, giving her a reassuring smile.
She smiled back, then changed the subject to her new latest obsession, One Direction.
As I listened to her go on about everything she learned about these five boys, I thought about how I was going to tell her what happened.
