It was a beautiful day... note the word was... this was a tragic to remember. my name is Maddie Mcallister and I am 18 years old, I just graduated high school and I was thinking that this was the start of everything! a new life, a new future, a new apartment, campus, and college just like I always dreamed of when I was little... I was ready for life to make me experience all of these things but unfortunately life is always not fair. you are probably wondering like what happened or why am I talking like this about life well let me back up.
It was my moms and dads anniversary and they decided to go to the Bahamas for 2 weeks. I know that 2 weeks doesn't sound a lot but it was for me. this was the first time that my parents were leaving me but that's fine because now I am 18 and capable of taking care of myself. I was an only child and we all live in a beautiful house in illinois chicago.
Summer 2013
I snooze my alarm to wake up and take a shower. today is the day mom and dad leave for the bahamas and I am gonna be driving them to the airport. I drag myself out of bed and check my phone that read 9:25 am it was really early but my family likes to always be early for our flights. so without any more complaining my legs led me to the bathroom and showered. by the time I was done I left my natural curly brown hair down to air dry on its own and I applied some lip balm and some mascara and I put on light blue ripped jeans and a red crop top. I made my way down to the kitchen to say good morning to my mom and dad and have breakfast. while I was having waffles with strawberries my dad took out the luggage to my car trunk. when we all finished breakfast I headed to my red Toyota and started driving to the airport with my mom and dad.
at the airport it was really crowded since it was summer vacation and i missed my mom and a dad and waved good bye to them and as I hugged them a tear came rolling down my eyes but i quickly wiped it because i don't want them to cry I wanted to show them that I am their strong independent girl they always dreamed of and I did! the rest of the ride back home was just me listing to songs in my car. by the time i got home from my work at a cafe I went to do my summer AP reading and by the time i got home it was already evening and it was such a long day I decided to eat an apple and take a warm shower. I changed into my comfy bed clothes which consists of shorts and a tank top the usual. i didn't even bother to brush my curly hair I just put it up in a messy bun with some curls hanging out the sides. I then watched some shows on netflix and I decided to call it a day.
I woke up in the middle of the night to my phone ringing loudly. I immediately jump up from my bed and answer the phone. It was a call... a call that no one ever wants to hear... a call that recks your nerves... a call that I feared my whole life... it was the airport informing me that the plane going to Bahamas has crashed over the Caribbean sea... that was a tragic moment a moment no one ever wants to hear. my hands let go of the phone ad it fell right to the floor. at that moment it felt like I was already dead I slid down to the floor slowly crying hysterically... the first thing that crossed my mind was to head to the airport I didn't care if it was 2 in the morning... without even changing I rushed to the car and drove as fast as I can.
tears came rolling down my eyes and my vision was blurred... in seconds I feel dizzy and all I can hear was the honking of fast car coming towards me on the highway... I cover my eyes and it was just all in seconds before i can process... it hit me like a rock that I crashed... I could only imagine what happened to me.
