Awkward

Noly was lying on the floor, staring up at the ceiling with her newest dog lying on her chest. Her back was starting to ache, but she did not want to change positions for the sake of her baby: he seemed so comfortable. She felt bad for still not being able to give him a name, but she was contented by the thought that inspiration would hit in due time.

"Name him 'Bird'," Jungkook suggested. Despite being warned several times by her mom about talking to strangers and stranger danger, Noly had invited a perfect rando she met in a pet store to her empty house without telling anyone. Although Noly much preferred her pets and fandoms to interacting with people her age, something about hanging out with Jungkook felt nice. He made insightful comments and did not try to make a move on her, unlike the other boys at school: he was mature.

"Nah, that's stupid," she dismissed him. They were both laying on the floor of her living room, with the TV turned on to heavens-know-what (the point was to have some sort of background noise, not to actually watch anything), staring at the ceiling like two perfect couch potatoes. The weather was too hot to be outside doing anything productive, anyways.

"It's better than nothing," he replied. Noly knew he was right, so she wisely chose not to reply.

"I'll name him Cloud," Noly announced after a long, awkward silence, inspired by her cousin Gio's wild story with Jungkook's friend, the one she would go out with on that day. She had heard it from Nany the previous day, and she wondered if Jungkook knew too.

"I like it," Jungkook said. From his reaction, Noly guessed that Jungkook was clueless. Better that way, she thought, cringing at the thought of Gio being so forward with a guy. She felt strong secondhand embarrassment, but then again, wasn't she sort of aiming for the same thing with Jungkook?

She certainly did not make out with him on Day One, but she had added him on Facebook after hours of scrolling through profiles of people with the same name, and she did invite him to come play with her dog without knowing him. Without realizing it, her cheeks slowly began to turn red, and when Jungkook sat up to stretch his back, he noticed.

"Are you overheating?" He asked. Granted, the weather in Manatí was ridiculous, but Noly had fifteen years of experience dealing with it.

"No!" she replied hesitantly, standing up quickly and sending poor Cloud off- she felt bad for startling him like that.

"I'm hungry," Jungkook announced out of the blue, changing the topic entirely. Noly was equal parts relieved, impressed and confused.

"I hate cooking," she told him, just so he wouldn't get any ideas. Her parents had taken the previous days' leftovers to work so their fridge was also empty. Noly tried thinking of an easy fix, and there was one, but it would involve a great deal of explaining, lying, hiding...

"We can order delivery from the place my sister works in- she gets an employee's discount," Noly suggested. She rarely resorted to that option because for one, she generally disliked Mexican food, and two, she somewhat distrusted her sister's cooking. If she suddenly were to order food from the place, Nany would ask questions- certainly, she would ask why in the world was Noly getting food for two?

"Okay," Jungkook said. Noly called the place, and thankfully someone other than Nany picked up.

"Rosa's Kitchen, how may we help you?" a high-pitched voice said from the other end. Noly recognized it immediately.

"Hey Cami," Noly greeted.

"Heyyy Noly," Cami said, "how's it going?"

"Meh, the weather sucks."

"My thoughts exactly, so did you want to talk to Nany?"

"No!" Noly jumped in, before Cami could even finish her question, "I actually wanted to order something."
