"Where are you going, Lieutenant?"
"I'm going to get drunker."
You smiled slightly before calling to him,"Hey, wait!". He turned around, looking at you with an annoyed look. "How about you wait a little more? Then we can all go!"
The annoyed frown soon turned into a confused one. He knew you and Connor, the android sent by CyberLife to aid you both in catching deviant androids, didn't drink, so why were you insisting to go with him?
You saw the look in his eyes and your smile widened a bit. "I'm gonna sing at a bar tonight, so how about we all go?". You knew he would say yes, even if he faked complaining. He was like your second dad and was always proud when you did something new, even if he didn't show it.
You moved to Detroit when you were 21, without your family. Once you were there, you joined the police force. You were assigned to help Lieutenant Anderson, and after a few years Connor came along. He was a big help, and you grew attached to him, even though he was an android. He always said he wasn't a deviant and didn't have emotions, but both you and Hank knew he did. The way he smiled when you made a joke or when Hank got disgusted by him analyzing blood showed he was genuinely happy, and if you were honest with yourself, that made you happy too.
"OK, I'll wait."
~~~
When you entered the bar, you started feeling sick. Usually you can deal with the smell of alcohol and sweat, but with your nerves, it started to get to you. Connor noticed your discomfort and patted your shoulder, smiling encouragingly. You nodded, shakily smiling back.
You made your way up the stairs into the back of the stage, where the instruments and musical androids were. A worker saw you and motioned for you to come closer.
"I already told the android band what song they were playing. You're on in ten," he explained. You nodded. As he left, you saw an empty stool. You sat down on it, closing your eyes and breathing deeply. You ran over lyrics of the song in your head, making it to the end and repeating it. Several minutes passed and you heard a voice in the speakers.
"We have a special guest today! They'll be singing in five minutes, so get ready~!"
You sighed heavily, focusing on your breathing. You counted off the minutes until showtime. Another employee poked her head in, telling you it was time. She gave you two thumbs up, smiling. You smiled back, walking to the curtain.
"Here they are, (Y/N) (Y/L/N), singing 'I like you' by Day6!"
You stepped into the spotlight and up to the microphone, the androids standing in their designated spots behind you. You took a deep breath, swallowed a few times, and motioned for the music to start. The words were on a large screen behind you so the people in the bar could see them. There were two lines of words, one in Korean and one in English. Hank sat in a stool by the bar with Connor standing behind him. You refused to look at them as you started singing.
While most people's eyes were focused on the screen, others were focused on you. Those didn't care about the words; they listened to the instruments and watched as your lips formed foreign words. One of those people was Connor, although he knew what you were saying. He could speak in thousands of languages, after all. You glanced at Connor and Hank. Hank seemed to have a peaceful expression, or as peaceful as he could make while conscious, as he stared at the screen. Connor, however, was looking straight at you, a soft smile tugging at his lips. You blushed lightly and looked down, stuttering, although it was barely noticeable. When you reached the chorus, most of your anxiety had left you, and you sung with a semi-confident voice. You glanced at Connor again, hoping he would look elsewhere. He was still looking at you, his LED a mix between yellow and blue. You smiled.
You once again reached the chorus, the unconfidence completely drained from your voice. Your eyes were tightly shut and you were smiling. You held the microphone higher and tilted your head back, singing with your heart. At the bridge, you toned it down a bit, holding the mic lower and opening your eyes to look at Connor. His grin had widened, his LED a soft blue. You inwardly smiled, hoping he understood. You sung the chorus once more, and when you stopped, you softly panted for air. You were hot but not yet sweaty, and you were smiling wide. Once it was over, the crowd clapped and clapped, some whistling. You took a playful bow and walked backstage, adrenaline rushing through your veins. You stepped off the stage and walked back to your friends.
"Ya know, Connor really looked human when he was watching me," you mused.
"You did pretty good up there, (Y/N)," Hank told you, taking a long swig of alcohol. You chirped a thanks and looked at Connor. He wasn't smiling anymore, instead looking thoughtful.
"Hey, um, I gotta go. I don't feel that great," you told them. The smell of alcohol and sweat invaded your nostrils again. Hank looked at you, raising an eyebrow.
"What, all that stress got to ya?" He asked, smirking. You nodded, thanking them for coming with you. "OK, if ya say so," he chuckled, taking another long drink then ordering another.
You rushed out of the building, a blast of cold air hitting you in the face. You took a few deep breaths, leaning on the wall. You looked to your side as you heard the door open and close. A familiar circle of blue caught your eye, and you found yourself staring into the chocolate-brown puppy eyes of Connor. You gasped, surprised at how quickly he got so close.
"Lieutenant Anderson told me to talk to you," he said simply. You were confused. "He said that I was becoming deviant because I felt emotions. I tried to deny it, but he didn't believe me." You were even more confused now. Why bring this up now? "He said the emotion I've been struggling with most was called 'love'. He said if I felt a strong attraction to someone and wanted them to be in my life forever, I loved them. He also said there were different types of love. One being a platonic love and the other being a romantic love." What is happening right now? "I researched and found that I did love someone in the romantic way, which means I'm becoming deviant, which I am not happy about." He stopped talking, staring at you intently.
"Um, Connor? Is this all about you being upset about becoming a deviant android?" you asked, not understanding his emphasis on his distaste of becoming deviant.
"Not all of it, but part of it," he answered, taking a step closer. "It's your fault I'm deviant, and you need to make up for it." He chuckled softly, cupping your face in his hand. He rubbed your cheekbone, making you blush. "(Y/N), saranghae."
Before you could respond, his lips met yours, soft and inviting. His free hand went to the small of your back, pulling you closer as you kissed. Your hand rested in his hair, perfectly styled. You two parted, your face dusted pink. He rested his chin on your head as he wrapped his arms around you in a warm hug, smiling.
"Hey, Connor?" you called softly. He hummed, releasing you. "I love you too."
