As we finished our breakfast I realized....that I was still in the clothes I wore yesterday.
"Hmmm. Great." I said. That slipped out!
"What?" Katie asked. I could tell she felt like she did something wrong. "It's my cooking, is'n it?! I knew I shouldn't have used the bisquick mix! Wait, that wouldn't have been my cooking!" She started talking to herself and seemed to forget what she asked.
"Eh em." I interupted. "No. I'm in the same clothes as yesterday."
"Ohh. Well, come on!" She said going up the stairs.
I followed her and we went down the hall and into her turqouise room. She went in her closet and grabbed some clothes. Soon there was a pile of clothes on the bed beside me to choose from. I decided to wear Katie's light washed, ripped skinny jeans and a purple shirt with ruffles at the top. When I finished getting dressed, I heard the closet door open and I turned around to see Katie. She was wearing a light pink, lace dress with a black leather jacket and boots.
"Ready?" She asked.
"Yup! Lets go!"
We got our purses and got into Katie's mom's car. Katie driving and me in the passenger seat. She could really use her own car, but since her mom and her don't get along very well and her dad thinks she should pay for her own car, she is stuck having to pay for her own car. Poor Katie.
The engine starts and we head to the dress shop we've had our eyes on, Betty's Dress Boutique. It doesn't sound good, but the dresses are beautiful! Every style, every color, every dress....basically. I bet anyone could find their perfect dress in there. I just hope I can find the one for me.
"Thanks for the clothes." I say to start small talk, plus I've been meaning to thank her.
"No prob!" She said with a smile. "That's what friends are for!"
I smile and we sing the rest of the way there.
We get to the store and park close to the door. It seems pretty empty.
I look at Katie before hopping out the car and we walk to the door.
It looks closed. All the lights are out. No people.
"Great, It's closed." Katie says.
I feel terrible, I wish I could've gone when we planned.
For a moment, we're just standing there in complete shock. Katie bangs on the glass door and I turn around in disappointment. I look up from the ground and see a decorated VW bug that says Betty's Dress Boutique.
"Katie, do you know what time the store opens?"
"Yea, I thought it was eight. Why?" She says looking through the glass door.
I look at my phone. 2:23 PM.
"Look." I say pointing to the car, when a woman who could be my grandmother comes out. She walks towards us, while taking out the keys, not even noticing.
"Hello?" I say, which makes Katie turn around.
"Oh, costumers!" She starts muttering to herself. "I'm so sorry! I had a doctors appointment this morning and asked my niece to open the store! Is she there?"
"Umm. We don't see anyone inside and the doors are locked." I reply.
The lady, Betty, walked to the door and opened it and turned on all the lights. We walked in behind her and saw a girl in her 20's behind the desk with her laptop.
"Hey, Aunt Betty." The girl said.
"Jessica, I asked you to open the store."
"I did. I let myself in with the key you gave me."
"Did you keep the door unlocked? Or bother to turn on the lights?"
"What?" Jessica says looking down at a text.
"Oh, nevermind. Girls, How may I help you?" She says with a sigh.
"We are just going to look around." Katie says with a smile.
"Alright. Call me if you need me!"
The dress shopping finally begins. FINALLY.
