We set off to the rack of dresses in the far back of the store.
"Well that was weird." I said. "This isn't how I imagined to start our dress shopping!"
"I know! And is it just me or does that lady have a creepy eye twitch?" Katie said putting a long, sparkly dress up to herself.
"It's just you." I smiled and saw Katie holding up a light blue party dress.
I was already overwhelmed by all the dresses, so I knew I needed to find a place to start, but where?
"Do you want to start trying some dresses on?" Katie asked with a stack of dresses in her arms.
"Yea, that's a good idea." I will probably have better luck when I see dresses on me, than on the rack.
Just then, I looked across the room and saw a long, black dress with red roses and silver sparkles flowing down it. It was beautiful, I just never imagined myself in this type of dress.
I walked across the room to the dress and brought it over to Katie admiring herself in a pink, tulle party dress.
I decided to pass by Katie (to make the dress a surprise! Hopefully not a let down!), and made my way to the dressing room behind her. I slipped into the dress and walked out to the full length mirror, when Katie's jaw dropped open "Oh. My. God." before I even saw myself.
"You. Look. AMAZING!" She moved away from the mirror and revealed myself.
In the mirror reflected a beautiful girl with dark brown hair draping over her shoulders. She was in a gorgeous dress that showed her body shape and she did look amazing.
"Wow." Was all that came out of my mouth. "It's beautiful."
"And what makes that dress so beautiful?" She said expecting the answer she had in mind.
I looked at her with a smirk.
She tried prompting me, "Yoooouuuuuu."
I laughed. "Alright. Whatever." I trailed off, staring at my dress. "So have you found a dress yet?"
"Yea, I already bought it."
"Are you serious?!"
"No! You're just dazed by your dress that i had to wake you up somehow!" She smiled. "So do you like this one?"
I moved as she took my place in front of the mirror. She was wearing the same pink, tulle dress as before and it looked fluffy, light and fun. It was perfect for her and her personality, plus it went really well with her brown hair.
"I love it!" I squealed excitedly, which brought a big smile to her face. "It's so cute!" She always called everything cute, unlike me, so it seemed to make her really happy.
"YAY! I'm so glad you like it!"
We stood there a little longer, staring and complementing our dresses.
I looked in the mirror and saw Betty looking at our dresses from around the corner.
I turned to look at her.
"Oh, how's everything going, girls?" She said.
Katie and I exchange looks for a second.
"Everything is great!" I smile. "We found our dresses!"
She looks at us and our dresses. "Well, girls. I don't think these dresses will do." She says like it won't break our hearts. "You need a little extra." She smiles and walks over to us.
She pins a red rose hair piece into my hair and a light pink feather hair piece into Katie's.
I gasp. "This is just what I needed! Thank you!" I give her a hug.
Why am I hugging her? I really don't know. I guess she just reminds me of my Nana.
I back away awkwardly and Katie looks at me like I'm insane.
I break the silence, scratch that, AWKWARD silence. "So could we buy these? Our parents are probably looking for us." I smile slightly.
"Oh, of course! Come meet me at the front desk!" She scuttled to the register and went through some papers.
We got out of our dresses and over to the front desk.
"Alright." Betty said. "Your dress will be $275," She said looking at me. "And your's will be $250." She says to Katie and we happily give her the money.
"What about the hair peices?" Katie asks.
"Oh, don't worry about that! It's free for you girls!" She says with a chuckle.
"Really? Thanks!"
She hands us our dresses and we walk into the parking lot and to the car.
"I'm driving!" Katie says.
"Well yea! It's your mom's car!" I scoff and hop in the car with my brand new, amazingly cute dress.
