Galekit's eyes darted around the light filled nursery, searching for his friends, Mosskit and Robinkit, hoping for their fur to appear in the piles of moss and feathers.
He huffed, they didn't seem to be in here... He would check around camp. Today was his apprentice ceremony, he had to sharpen up his skills.
"Hey Galekit!" A familiar voice called, he whipped around to see his old friend, Piercepaw. She pranced up to him, smiling, "Where's Breezeflower's kits? You guys are inseparable." Galekit stuck his tongue out with a small giggle, "Don't call them 'Breezeflower's kits' you're only a moon older than us!" She rolled her fiery amber eye, her dull, blind blue one did the same. There was no pupil in the dead blue depths, "Shut it Galekit, but where are those two?"
Galekit scratched his ear, "We're playing hide and seek, like warriors looking for intruders!" He waved his plume tail excitedly as Piercepaw's brother, Mountainpaw, came up behind her, "Piercepaw come on, Grassheart and Rosejewel want to go hunting." Piercepaw gave him a confused look, "Grassheart and I went hunting the other day, plus, Robinkit, Mosskit, and Galekit's apprentice ceremony is today. Why don't you just go hunting with Rosejewel?" Mountainpaw looked annoyed, "You need to focus on training, sis!"
The quiet tom rarely talked, he only spoke like everyone else when he was around his family, Piercepaw, Owlstar, and Birdsong. Galekit always hated him, he was never glad to be the leaders son. Robinkit and Mosskit were the deputy's kits, and they were extremely grateful.
Pushing away his thoughts, he tuned back into the conversation, "I know you don't like them Mountainpaw, but don't you wanna see Dad give them their names? Everyone's always telling me I look just like him." Piercepaw puffed up her chest proudly, Mountainpaw hissed, "I look just like Mom!" Piercepaw stifled a laugh, "You're grey! Mom is brown mouse brain!"
He hung his head, "I'm going hunting..." He muttered, barely audible. He stalked away, Piercepaw huffed, "I guess I should go hunt with him, good luck finding Robin and Moss!" She cried as she trotted away, Galekit turned and continued his 'brave' search.
"Boo!"
A familiar loud voice shrieked, Galekit's vision was covered with red and black fur as he was tumbled over. He growled, "Get off me you fat mouse brain!" He cried as he kicked his friend away, Robinkit burst out laughing, "Hey! You're the fat one!" Galekit pounced on him, pinning him on the ground, "It's called being fluffy, rabbit-brain."
With a fake growl Robinkit rolled on top of Galekit, "Or someone's been sneaking extra prey." With a hiss Galekit tumbled with Robinkit, their giggles buzzing though the air.
"Robinkit! Galekit!" A panicky voice cried, Galekit jumped away from his friend, looking up. A stressed and messy Breezeflower was dashing towards them, "Look at you! You're all messy, and right before your apprentice ceremony!" Robinkit rolled his eyes, "Mom...!" Breezeflower gave him a stern look, "You need to look perfect for this, it only happens once." She gently gripped his scruff in her teeth, dragging him to her. He continued to wail in protest as she quickly groomed him, she paused in between licks, "Galekit, go find Birdsong. She's probably in the nursery, I don't have time to groom you."
Galekit sighed, there was no point in fighting. He began to slowly pad over to the nursery, his paws dragging. Suddenly he saw her soft green eyes popping out of the nursery, she smiled when she saw him, trotting over. "Come on dear, let's clean you up." She began to slowly groom him, her tongue strokes gentle and soothing. Despite himself, he began to drift off as she softly spoke to him, "So it's your big day, I'm sure your mother is very proud of you." Galekit perked up, "You think so?" She gently tapped her nose to his, "I know so."
