Renjun's POV
The next day, I'm woken up by an annoying beeping noise. Out of instinct, I reach out and start hitting whatever the noise is coming from, in hopes that it'll somehow stop. I fail, but Yukhei comes to the rescue and stops it for me. Ah, finally. Peace and quiet.
"WAKE UP YOU HOMELESS CELERY STICK, WE GOTTA GET READY FOR SCHOOL!" Nope, nevermind.
I groan in annoyance, my eyes still shut. I lay there for a few minutes, and when I think Yukhei is finally gone, I relax back into the sweet-smelling covers. But I hear him scream again. This time he doesn't even say anything, he just screams.
"Does he do this every day?" I ask Sicheng as he walks into the room.
"Every minute." I mewl loudly as I pull the blanket over my head, only to have Yukhei rip them off again. I give up, allowing Yukhei to grab my limp arm and pull me out of bed. I get up as I smell food and my eyes open instantly. I run towards the source of the smell and I'm greeted by a whole meal.
"Sicheng! I didn't know you were so good at cooking!" I beam.
After breakfast, Sicheng hands me my uniform and school bag with everything I need in it. We get into his car and he drives us to school.
"Renjun, I can't wait for you to meet all my friends! You'll be in my year group so don't worry, I'll make sure you fit in." He grins.
"And I'm in the year above, so come to me if you're ever having trouble!" Sicheng adds. I nod fervently and look out the window, a wave of exhilaration washing over me as I analyse each and every element of Mother Nature before me.
We arrive at the school and I crane my neck to look at it, while Yukhei chuckles next to me.
"Welcome to the International School of Guangzhou."
-----
My first day at school has been great so far. Yukhei showed me around the place, always clinging on to me to make sure I don't get lost, and introducing me to new people. He eventually drags me to his usual lunch table with his supposed group.
"Hey, guys! This is Renjun. He's a new transfer student. Renjun, this is Chenle, Kun, and Yangyang. Chenle's in the year below us, Yangyang is in our year group and Kun is in my brother's year group."
"Speak of the devil," Kun mutters, and we turn around to see Sicheng scoffing.
"I'm not the devil, you dislocated pancake. I'm an angel!" He says the last line while cupping his own cheeks and fluttering around, imitating a... fairy, I guess? We all chuckle at his cute behaviour before I acknowledge the other guys. I wave at them and take a seat next to Chenle, although immediately regretting it as he screams into my ear.
"OW! You're just like Yukhei!" I complain while covering my ears. He only laughs louder, his voice a confusing mix of a dolphin and a screeching chair.
"Of course! Some people say we're long lost brothers!" He sends a toothy smile over to Yukhei. I can't help but smile widely at how cute Chenle is.
The bell rings, and all the students in the cafeteria slowly make their way towards whatever class they have. I look at my schedule and feel Yukhei's hot breath hitting the back of my neck. I turn around abruptly, confusion and slight shock on my face. "Dude, chill. I was just checking to see if we are in the same class," I nod for him to continue while he frowns at my schedule, his head tilted, "and no, we're not." He purses his lips. "I can still show you to your classroom!"
He walks me to my next Art class and I hold onto his sleeve, scared that I might get lost. He swerves through the crowd, keeping his eyes on my timetable and looking up to check the door numbers.
"Aha!" He screams. I look ahead to see my Art class, with students piling into it whilst chatting amongst themselves heartily. "Hopefully you can make a friend here!" He pats my shoulder before walking back down the hallway.
I cautiously walk into the classroom, as it is the first one I'm in without Yukhei. I scan the room, eager to find a friendly face. The teacher notices me peering into the classroom.
"Are you lost?"
"No, this is the classroom I'm meant to be in."
"Well, come in then! And introduce yourself!"
I bow hesitantly and introduce myself, as I see the students faces smiling at me. However, there's only one empty seat left, at the back. Oh, how I hate sitting at the back at school. As I walk towards the seat, I notice that my new seat partner is a small girl, sleeping soundly on her right arm. Her ponytail covers her face slightly and her chipped nails are curled up into a ball.
I sit down next to her, making sure to leave some space in between. I haven't interacted with many girls up in Caelum. Jaemin, Jeno and I would always stick together. They both worked with kids while I never believed in love, so I never really paid attention to females. But she's now my seating partner, so I hope I don't mess this up.
I lean towards the edge of the chair when I hear gentle snoring. Although, it wasn't as gentle as I thought since the whole class turned around and stared at us.
"Mr Renjun, can you please wake your seatmate up?" I look over at the snoring mess right next to me and give her a little shove. When she doesn't budge, I give her another one. Eventually, I'm shaking her violently and yelling at her to wake up, while my other classmates laugh in amusement. It seems as though the laughter was the only thing that wakes her up.
She tiredly glances around the classroom, her hair sticking messily to her sweaty forehead. I scoff at her state and clear my throat to get her attention.
"Hey, I'm your new seatmate, Renjun."
"I'm Fei-hung."
