i drove the long drive to the hospital.

i walked out the hospital doors.
with my grandmother in a wheelchair.
i unlocked my car.
and i saw a girl sitting.
she was on the curb.
holding her phone in hand.
crying.
i put my grandmother in the car.
then i went over to the girl.
she was crying and her phone
died.
she couldn't call anybody.
i asked her if she wanted a ride.
she nodded and i helped her up.
i told her my name.
she told me her name.

it sounded like summer.
even though summer isn't in may.
we got to the car.
may sat in the front seat.
i introduced grandmother to her.
she seemed to like her.
i asked her where her house was.

there was a long silence.
i tried to pass the time.
i told may a funny joke.
she laughed and told me one.
the whole car ride was full of jokes.
we got to her house.
she thanked me.
i got her number too.
i just wish i had remembered.
