Suzuka started hurriedly pressing buttons again, trying to make sure that the audio on the other end still worked.
"What's wrong, Tomita?" Kumi asked calmly, not showing the panic she felt on the inside.
"Kageyama-san isn't responding anymore," Suzuka replied, "I'm not sure whether it's on our end, or that something had actually happened to her."
"Damn it... Kage, can you hear me?!"
Kumi and the other crew members could only hear silence, a sound none of them wanted to hear.
"Kumi, something's wrong with Kage's suit," Ayaka replied, "Three of the five main booster engines have failed; I'm trying to help Memi and Mana find the cause of it now."
"Crap... Keep looking, Ayaka. Tomita, get in contact with Katoshi."
"Yes, ma'am."
Both Ayaka and Suzuka went back to their respective tasks while Kumi looked on worriedly.
"Kage... we need you alive..."
Meanwhile, Suzuka began typing while looking at the screen to try and get in contact with Shiho.
"Kato here. What do you guys need?"
"Katoshi! It seems the situation's getting worse; I'm sending you coordinates to Kage's approximate location. Get there as soon as you can!"
"Alright! I'll try to... a..." Static started to overrun the broadcast. Suzuka tried to get it back, but to no avail.
"Shiho-san?! Shiho-san, come in!" she screamed, trying to keep in contact with her.
"Tomita, what's going on?!"
"I'm not sure, Kumi-san; it must have something to do with the area."
Kumi turned to Kyoko, who's tears wouldn't stop falling. She took her in for a hug, not before she heard the girl talk.
"That idiot..." she murmured in between stifles, "She's going to get killed... I know it..."
"Kumi-chan~!" A shy sounding voice resonated through the hangar, "I figured something out!"
Kumi looked towards the door, arms still wrapped around Kyoko, to find Technical Officer Higashimura Mei, pieces of paper in her hand.
"What did you find, Meimei?"
"Their new mech has some sort of signal jammer," Mei replied, "I tried making my own with what I saw from a few blueprints, but I don't know whether it works."
"How'd you even get the idea?"
"It's an engineer's mindset, I guess. I thought if I could block the jammer from blocking our communications, it would nullify everything."
"Would it be possible to get it deployed, Meimei? We're in a sticky situation right now."
"I'll see what I can do," Mei replied, before walking off again, "It may take a little while for me to get it done on my own though."
Kumi nodded, "That means we need to buy time, right?"
"Yeah. What are your orders?"
"Can you get a drone out there for video surveillance before you start? I need to know whether Katoshi and Kage are okay. Then we'll take care of the rest up here."
"Roger that!"
"I'll go help Meimei," Ayaka responded, "It'll be quicker that way."
"Thanks, Ayaka."
Ayaka followed Mei, the latter not hesitating to pull her hand back for Ayaka to grab on to.
"Let's go."
