He has tried to talk to her to see where she came from but the girl hasn't said a word. He speeds his way to the station in silence. As he passes the neighborhoods he sees the turn on Maple that will lead him to his old house. Where their houses were side by side; and they had made that conjoined bridge from room to room. Their parents were so mad but still let the bridge stay.
He turns the opposite way and heads toward the station. He says something to the girl, again, to try to get information to give to the sheriff when he got there. She just shivers as she stairs out the window. He had tried to hand her the blanket in the front seat earlier but it was as if she had saw right through him.
Near the stoplight he once again tries to hand her the blanket. She finally sees him and her hand hesitantly takes it. Slowly she covers herself. Shortly after they arrive at the precinct.
He pulls in to the side entrance and there is a doctor waiting there for them with a wheelchair. Richards gets out and runs over to the passenger side and scoops her up to place her in the chair.
"I'm Dr. Furner, Amy. I'm here to take care of you." The doctor says as he reaches for the wheelchair.
Officer Richard begins to turn to go inside the station but Amy grabs his hand. She looks into his eyes, for the first time, when he looks at her. He sees the fear in her eyes; the pleading look that ask him to stay.
"Dr. Furner, I'm staying with her as long as she needs." Richards says to the doctor without looking at him.
"Of course, I will send the nurse next door to let the sheriff and her father know that she is here." The doctor says as they walk into the hospital. He says something to the nurse who quickly runs out toward the station.
They go in to a room where they get Amy on to a bed so the doctor can look at her feet and check her injuries. She looks terrified but allows the staff to examine her. She smiles meekly at Richards. This gives him the incentive that he needs to question her about what happened.
"Amy, can you tell me what happened?" he asks gently hoping not to scare her into silence.
She shakes her head softly.
"Where you going when this happened?" He asks although her father says she always walks home he had to make sure that she didn't have plans with someone that when terribly wrong.
"Home." Amy croaks out her voice sore from her previous screaming.
"Was it someone you know that did this to you? Was it a person from school? Was this someone in your neighborhood that you know?" He has many more questions but Richards realizes he needs to slow down before he scares her too much.
Amy shakes her head to his questions and looks down and rubs her nails. She reminds Richards of someone he can't quite remember. Before he can ask her another question the door is thrown open and a frantic man comes rushing in. Amys face begins to gain a little more color as he rushes and embraces her. When he lets her go the man turns and extends his hand to Richards.
"Thanks for finding my little girl. Officer?" The man starts.
"Officer Richards, Peter Richards" he says as he shakes Amy's fathers' hand.
"Mr. Leverson, your daughter needs a full physical before she can be realized." The doctor says to him.
"I will be back for more of your statement later, Amy." Richards states; before he heads to the door to leave, Amy speaks.
"It was a little girl who need help calling her mom.
Amy takes a breath and a nurse hands her a glass of water. She continues.
"It's the brown bricked house with the bars on the windows halfway down the street you found me on. I was tied in the basement. There is broken glass on the side where I climbed out of the window.
Amy is sobbing but she goes on through the tears.
"I stabbed some old woman down there but I was only trying to get away.
Her tears are hysterical.
"I'm so sorry daddy I only wanted to help the little girl."
She thrusts herself into her fathers arms. Mr. Leverson holds his sobbing daughter as he turns to Richards.
"Officer Richards please get these sons of bitches that did this to my little girl."
"Yes, sir." Richards says and heads out the room. He walks next door of the hospital to the station to talk to the sheriff. Soon as he walks in he hears his name.
"Richards, get in here!" The sheriff shouts. He hustles into his offices and shuts the door.
"Yes, sir?" He says awaiting instructions.
"What the hell happened out there?"The sheriff is still yelling.
"The victim states that a little girl needed help calling her mom. She meet her at the brown bricked house with the bars on the windows halfway down Frost Street. She found herself tied in the basement and used self-defense to escape. There is broken glass on the side where she climbed out of the window. Sir" Richards says.
"Take Anderson and go to that house and find out what the hell happened!" The sheriff yells, he has worked himself up becoming red in the face.
"Yes, sir." He says turns and leave and sees Anderson already waiting for him outside the office.
~Yes, come to me~
Richards hears a whisper and turns to Anderson.
"What did you say?"
Anderson looks at him with disbelief shaking his head
"I didnt say anything. You okay man?"
Richards shrugs "Man it has been one hell of a day. Lets go see whats going on at that house."
As they get in to the squad car Richard swears he hears something again this time a little more clearly.
~ Come to me. ~
