Walking into Raccoon City makes my heart ache and my blood boil.
It's taking everything in my power to not throw a stone or turn a car over, seeing how much destruction has come over the city...
My city...a place I was supposed to protect. And yet here it is in deserted damnation, not a soul, not even a zombie, in sight. Not even a sign of Umbrella or any of their agents, or what would have been left of them, anywhere within my field of vision. But there are plenty of demons, basking demons in the light of the setting sun. And the angels wait patiently in the shadows, waiting for the cool of the summer nights to walk in sorrow among the fossilized dead.
And here I thought that coming back to it would have been easier. Well...easier said than done.
"Feels strange doesn't it?" Chris asks as he walks next to me. "And to think that the both of us were trying to run from this place instead of coming back..."
I can't help but agree. I notice that some of the demons have noticed our arrival, but they merely watch on, in a manner like sunbathing cats staring upon a fellow kin in their territory with little to no interest.
Almost in a sense like we're of next to no importance to them. This is helpful...I hope.
However, our short bliss of ignorance comes short, as something whistles towards us. While my brain doesn't comprehend what the sound is, I nonetheless pull Chris hard enough to lift him clean off his feet and move to my right side. It seems my Revenant instincts serve well, as a straight-edged katana with a handle like that of a kitchen knife land right where Chris would have been standing...and a little TOO close to my feet and my nose for comfort.
The demons lurch from their lounging and flurry off to the skies. The shimmer of angel wings tell me that the other spirits have gone into hiding, and judging from the hullabaloo of leather wings from the demons, something here has more power than both demon or angel...
Something black lands in front of Chris and I, shaking the earth where we stand. Dust clears as a clothed monster of deep denim, nigh near midnight indigo clad with a massive gold belt of a skull and crossbones waist cape stands before me. Damn he's tall, three times our height, and although lanky, definitely built to strike hard and strike fast.
...his accuracy proved that much.
His helm, I have to admit, is rather frightening: stainless steel, yet skull-like and demonic in design...
His head cocks to the side, as if he's inspecting us. I don't like the silent treatment we're being given, and Chris hurries to his feet. He aims his gun at the beast.
"No, Chris, don't...!" I warn him, but he's rattled off a few warning shots. They glance off the monster's head and give off a sound ringing, much to the beast's annoyance. The noise itself ripples through my eardrums, and I'm not one to express pain other than the fact that that actually hurt!
The demon looks at Chris. It lurches back, and a howl like damnation itself tears through the air.
...Shit, we're fucked.
"YOU IDIOT!" I cusp Chris about his ear and make a run for it. He stumbles after me, breaking into a full-on sprint while the beast grabs his sword.
Night is falling, fast. We don't have much light, but I don't need it to feel the earth shaking under my feet. I stumble and trip, as does Chris, and we both turn to see black smoke billowing from a hole drilled into the pavement by the monster. I catch sight of flickering at the corner of my eyes, and I see that there are crimson, crystalline coffins rising from the smoke.
